Another one of them TeleBEARS threads.

So. A couple TeleBEARS-related questions. (My appointment is this week.)

1) What are my chances of getting off the waitlist for an R1B/R5B course? For the classes I'm currently looking at, I'm probably going to be at least fourth or fifth on the waiting list. I've heard for many classes most people who make the waitlist get in. Is this true of R1B/R5B courses as well?

2) Are Philosophy R1B classes rumored to be hard (sort of like the Comparative Lit, English or Rhetoric ones)? CourseRank lacks ratings for them, but as a philosophy major I'd be down to take a philosophy writing class if the grading isn't too crazy.

All help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

1) R&C classes are not like most classes, the odds of clearing the waitlist are much worse than normal. While the rule of thumb is to take 10% of the total class size as an estimate of how many will clear the waitlist, it is more like 0 or 1 clearing for the R&C classes.

2) outside of the comp lit, english, and rhetoric classes, most R&C are just picking some stories or books in the subject area as reading, but the focus is on R&C not on that subject area. For example, a Russian R&C might use works by Chekov or Pushkin or Gorbachev, in English. Looks like, from the two books listed, the course will be writing on animal activism and on global poverty eradication. I would assume the focus will be on the ethics and issues surrounding those topics. Should not be difficult, as long as you are comfortable with the topics to be covered.
