Another one of these "rate my chances" things...

I hope you all aren't too annoyed of them. :P I really love Wash U - it's my favorite school, and, well, I was tempted...

(By the way, I'm new here. Hi everyone!)

Ethnicity: Indian (Asian)
Gender: Female
Location: Northern Virginia
Decision: Regular

Academic Stats:
SAT I: 760 Reading, 800 Math, 800 Writing (=2360 total, and this is over 2 sittings)
SAT II: 760 French w/o listening, 750 Chem
GPA : 4.26 weighted
Class Rank: My high school doesn't rank, but it is the top-ranked public high school in the country, if that helps

AP Courseload:
Junior year: AP Calc BC, APUSH, AP French Lang, AP Chem
Senior year: AP Stats, AP Gov, AP English Lit/Comp, AP Bio

AP Scores:
BC Calc - 5
APUSH - 5
French Lang - 3 (grargh I know)
Chem - 5

Awards/Honors:
National Merit Semifinalist
Academic Letter of Honor, 3 years (pretty generic)
National Honor Society
French Honor Society
AP Scholar with Honor

EC's (won't go into detail):
Research internship at a hospital laboratory summer before 12th grade (8 weeks)
Literary magazine - 4 years, leadership positions in 11th and 12th grade
Public policy internship at a non-profit organization (6 weeks)
Volunteer at the local hospital
Tutor students at nearby elementary school & underclassmen
Classical Indian dance
Piano (on hiatus since end of 11th grade, but plan to pick it up again)

Writing:
Extracurricular activity explanation: I made it anecdotal while conveying the details (it's about the research internship)
Essay: Likely a really strong point in my application - I spent forever on this.
Teacher recs: One of them I'm sure will be awesome, the other one I think should be good, though I'm not as close to the second teacher as I am to the first
Counselor rec: I keep in touch with my counselor a lot, so I guess it should be good? I don't know.

See, overall I think this looks pretty good, but the issue is that my school is extremely competitive. I'm sure there are plenty of people with higher GPAs than mine (I've heard people complain about 4.3s), and people have some ridiculous extracurriculars while still maintaining their grades. So please take a look at this if you can - I'd really appreciate it!

By the way, this might be a dumb question, but...do college admissions officers ever take a look at these kinds of websites? I'm sure they know these exist, but I wonder whether or not they actually look at them. If so, I hope they don't take these "rate my chances" things as compliment-fishing or something like that. I mean, mine and the others I've seen are in earnest, but I can see how they can be misconstrued. Anyways, I'm babbling...thanks for any responses!

I don’t know what your GPA is out of so I cant say if a 4.23 is high or low. But you look like a strong applicant. You have a good chance. just show a lot of interest so they wont think you are using their school as a safety

Argh, should have made that clear! It’s on a 4.0 scale, but like I said, my school is very competitive, so our average GPA I think is slightly above a 4.0 (not sure what exactly it is, though).

By showing interest, do you mean talking to admissions officers when they visit, visiting the school, going to their local info sessions, etc? I’ve done all of those things except for visiting the school - I would love to see it, but haven’t been able to go yet for various reasons.

Thanks for the comments/advice!

You live a far ways from st. Louis, they wont hold it against you if you dont visit. But doing all those other things you have said does show good interest. If you want, you can also apply for some of washu’s merit scholarships, to show even more interest. lol
I think if you apply for merit scholarships, they wont think that you are treating their school as a safety. soo i guess its up to you.

^ Thanks muppetsecks. I do plan on applying for Wash U’s merit scholarships.

Would anyone else be willing to rate my chances, please?

I would say yess. But remember, showing interest is a big part of the application. People who don’t show interest and have really good scores etc. like 34 ACT etc. get denied.

You are a very strong candidate, which doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily get accepted but you sure have a great shot.
Good luck!

lol vandana is that you? if not, thats fine, but this is a wild guess lol

can people even show interest for washU?
i don’t remember there being any writing about why you want to come

you have a good chance good luck:) doesnt seem like you will need it
chance me my fellow indian

There aren’t any “Why Wash U” essays, but you can show interest by talking to admissions reps, going to their local reception, keeping in touch with your admissions officer, through your interview (if you have one), or by visiting the campus.

Thanks again to everyone!

In response to the last question in your original post, I think it would be smart if admission officers DID lurk or post on this or similar sites. I believe there are some admission officers that officially post on this site (though not for WUSL) and the students/parents really appreciate it. So be careful who and what you bad mouth around here! (;^)
