Another one of those chance threads

Currently a freshman, applying as a sophomore transfer.

Majors: Political Science & Economics, considering adding Psychology or History
College GPA: 3.92
College ECs: Parliamentary Debate, Board of the university Law Journal, Pre-Law Society
HS GPA: 3.5 UW (my school barely weighted at all, so my weighted GPA is probably a 3.57 or something close to that)
HS ECs: Student Congress Debate, Drama Club (backstage tech), Model United Nations, Young Conservatives Club, Tennis Team, Chess Club
APs: English Lit and Comp (4), U.S. History (4), European History (3), Physics AB (1, not reporting it...I did get a 93 in the course, however)
SAT I: 760V, 610M, 770W
SAT IIs: Literature (670), U.S. History (720)

Caucasian, American male.

My HS is recognized annually as one of the top schools in the Northeast (#5 in Maine, #75 in New England, if I remember correctly). I took a mix of honors and non-honors courses...I'd say it was about 60% honors to 40% regular. There were barely any APs offered, and I only took the ones I was legitimately interested in.

Hooks (if any): Debate team captain, runner-up for State Champion in my event, two-time competitor at the National Speech and Debate Tournament (I was a Semifinalist the second time). I'm also a freshman serving as a Copy Editor on the board of the newly created Law Journal at my current school (it's one of only 4-5 undergrad law journals in the nation), which means I already know how to Bluebook.

Applying to:
Yale
Columbia
Dartmouth
UPenn
Georgetown

Questions? Comments? Concerns? Curse words?

Thanks.

Also, I’m currently at a Tier 1 university. Not sure if that makes a difference…

Because you are applying as a sophomore transfer, your high school credentials will be fairly important. Your high school GPA is a little low, but if it’s a competitive high school, it would help to know your class rank.

Make sure you gently emphasize that your high school didn’t offer many AP courses, so you won’t look bad next to other applicants who took a million AP tests. Gently though, don’t complain about it, just inform them. (This information might already appear on your transcript, I don’t know)

I don’t know a whole lot about the transfer stats to the schools you listed, but I’m certain most probably only accept 10-20% of transfer applicants, possibly less. Make sure you have a good reason for transferring. If you have to leave your current institution, you might want to apply to a couple weaker schools for safety.

I do think you have a chance. I do think you would be a competitive applicant at those schools BUT, you need to do a super job at short answer, essay questions, and making yourself stand out. There will be many many students trying to get in with an application on par with yours. Best of luck.
