I know that there was already a thread about the importance of essays, but I was just wondering based on my stats, would I need some really strong essays? I want to apply early, but my essays aren't really that strong...

Background:

Job working 10-15 hours/week this year, 20-25 horus junior year.
AP Scholar with honor award (Not sure if it really matters..)

I think I got some pretty good recs and my diversity is stressed in my counselor rec.

So back to my question...Based on these stats would I need some strong essays? Should I apply regular instead to refine my essays or should I stick with the supposedly easier ED pool?

If I stick with regular decision...I will have stronger essays, but UVA will see my GPA go down a bit. I'm taking some tough classes and it might go down to a 3.96W GPA worse case scenario.

Any suggestions would be aprreciated.
