Note that Thanksgiving is late this year. I just checked the UA academic calendar for Fall 2013…and after Thanksgiving, there is only 1 week of school left in that semester, then finals. I do not think that a flight home for Thanksgiving will be in order for our S this year.

My DS did not come home over Thanksgiving. Flying to the west coast takes all day and it is expensive, even using SWA. Fortunately, he likes to cook and made Thanksgiving dinner for one of his suite mates.

Lots of OOS students stay on campus for Thanksgiving, it is a short break and they need the time to regroup for finals. Often, not worth the expense of a flight either. However, if you plan on not bringing your student home for Thanksgiving, have that conversation before they leave for the semester to avoid disappointments.

Agree with Robotbldmom, DS stayed in Ttown last Thanksgiving as there was no justification for him to come home for such a short amount of time with finals looming. Although we missed him, we were glad he had a different experience for Thanksgiving with friends. Winter break is just a few weeks away…

I dont think for the first year that my DW is going to allow him not to come home particularly since his 18th birthday is just prior to that. Crazy thing, a round trip flight for Move-in is $370, but a one way flight for DS since he obviously wont be coming back with us same airline is $290. I’m thinking that I should book it as a round trip but his return wont be until Thanksgiving vacation week.

No Iron Bowl at Bama this Thanksgiving, S might actually want to come home.
