another oos student

i sent in my application for ut-austin prior to the priority deadline. i'm from the good ole state of maryland.

class rank: school does not rank (and my guidance counselor never told me where i would be if my school did)

Weighted GPA:
Freshmen: 4.2
Sophmore: 4.3
Junior: 4.2
Senior: 4.2

Test Scores:
ACT: 25
SAT: M-620, V-570

Extracurriculars:
Internship at the American Film Institute (Triple Period)
Editor-in-chief of school newspaper
One of the handful students in a college-research program
Memember of Literary Magazine, SADD, International Club, etc.
national honors society, national quill and scroll

Held a handful of jobs since freshmen year

Have been in higher level classes all through out high school. i have however took some APs and drop one or two along the way. this year i have a half-schedule because i have an triple period internship.

do i have a chance of getting in? or should i not put up high expections for an acceptance letter?

I'm kind of interested as well......

Where can I find more OOS chances?

The GPA would be your saving grace.

You've got a shot - don't expect an acceptance (due to test scores) but don't count on a rejection either - I'd say you're really on the border.

The test scores are just really too low. I wouldn't count on an acceptance letter.

You can find more oos chances by searching through the archives. But, comparing this year's numbers to previous years could be skewed because of the percentage of top 10% in state guaranteed admits, which has been rising every year.

hey,

thanks for the heads up. i love UT and all but I knew when I applied there, it would be my "reach" school.

the good thing is that I got into UTSA and Ohio State (on scholarships too!)...but not important. however, i could use some Texas sun right now. It's too cold in DC!

good luck to everyone who applied.

Don't go to UTSA directly, because if you don't make it in, you will def. get the opportunity to go to UTSA and transfer in if your GPA is above the requirement. And there is no way they can deny you.

I believe you have to be a texas resident to be offered CAP. (not sure, check the website)

jmryan,
I am an OOS CURRENTLY in UT- freshman, from your neighbor state VIRGINIA!
Congrats on applying to UT.
I too considered it a reach school, and in march... the acecptance letter came in. So definitely there is a possibility. YES, It is a lot tougher coming form out of state because the acceptance rates for oos are extremely low, but don't lose hope, AT ALL. Your stats are very very very similar to mine (your gpa is even higher than mine), it changes every year and it depends on who applies, extracurriculars seem to be important sometimes for them, at least I think those helped me because my SAT was low (about the same as yours). I can't say YES youll get in... but I wouldn't lose complete hope- each case is unique!!!
UT is absolutely amazing and as you know, is a long way from the east coast but you will LOVE it.. GOOD LUCK, don't lose hope, and good luck on the rest of the colleges you are waiting to hear from.
Post it when you hear from UT!!!!
iF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS... DONT HESITATE TO ASK!

hey ceciuy

thanks for the words of encouragement. i've applied to 5 schools and already got in into four of them (university of maryland, ohio state, texas a&m, ut-san anotonio)..figures the first choice is the last hear back from.

my thoughts on getting into ut? for me, i'm doubting it after seeing the stats of others on this board. i've already received a scholarship from ohio state and im waiting another huge one...so im confident i'll be going somewhere after high school.

i'll make sure to post my decision on here
