well, i emailed the crew coaches at usmma and one said "we will be happy to teach you how to be a coxswain and you are the perfect size."

so theres some good news :) looks like i have one sport taken care of, now i just have to find that Muay Thai club! I just got back from my muay thai class, which i take M-W-F in SF. Starting in a week and a half i'll hopefully be taking Mixed Martial Arts classes on tues/thurs (jiu jitsu, like on that show UFC :D ). In a month I'm going to see my instructor fight, live. His fight will be on ESPN2 also, so ill be sure to record that too :) Another instructor of mine is going to fight in sept and oct, to defend his IKF Amatuer belt. I saw him get the belt so I cant miss seeing him keep it :)

too bad usmma and uscga dont have crazy good self defense programs like annapolis... or do they?

Jamzmom, I believe, can answer your question in more detail concerning self-defense sports at USMMA. Actually, she has several posts here at CC as regards this topic.

I can only add that my son has started fencing at Kings Point, as a club sport, and he thinks it's pretty "cool!"

Hi Taffy! Yep. USMMA is in need of some new facilities and its being talked about throughout the Alumni Assoc. They do some self defense courses but since my kid hasn't had that yet, maybe another parent can answer your question. I'll get with my son over the week-end and ask him which martial arts are offered. He will be going to his three times a week but it is off campus. Not sure what he's taking. He did taekwondo but he said its not that I remember. I'll get back to you on it. Crew gets up at 4:30 am pal! You up for it! LOL
