Another question about W's...

Hey guys. I'm a CS major in a California CC. A CS class that I'm taking is going a little over my head and I don't think I can catch up in time to salvage my grade. I'm starting to consider taking a W, keeping the textbook to study on my own time, and retaking the course with a renewed fervor. I have only one other W out of 3 years of CC, so this would be my second one. I hate admitting defeat but it seems to be the better option. I know one W doesn't wreck anyone's chances, but how does 2 typically look on a transcript these days? I've heard some crazy stories about many W's being forgiven but I realize that isn't typical. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks for any answers.

Where are you trying to transfer to? What is your current gpa and what kind of grade do you think you’d get if you stayed in this class?

Generally speaking a W instead of a C or lower is potentially an okay trade-off, especially if your gpa is strong. However, one C in a strong transcript also isn’t a big deal, either.

Remember that CSUs are strictly gpa-based (no LOR, no essay, etc). So a W is no big deal. And remember that UCs look a bit more holistically, so it matters more how the W or C fits into the bigger picture.

I’m floating around 3.2-3.3 right now. My prospects don’t look too bright if I stayed in this class. I have 1 or 2 C’s from GEs, I don’t remember exactly.

I just don’t feel good about having to consider a W again. I know that they might not be the end of the world but for some people they were. Weird.
