Just thought of another question I have. So I figure that at the schools I'm applying to that have early action, it would be a good idea for me to do that. At those schools the early action deadlines range from Nov. 1-Nov. 15. But then I thought it might be a better idea to apply for the regular decision deadline, which is Jan. 15, or around there, to show the schools what is hopefully going to be a large upward trend in my senior year GPA. So can anyone tell me what would be a better idea? Thanks in advance.

bump.........

Since there is not usually an advantage in applying early action (while there is an advantage with early decision), I would suggest that you only apply EA to your safeties.

One of the main reasons to apply RD over EA is to wait for potential the Senior 1st semester boost.

You may be on the right track to do RD, it seeems

really? i heard elsewhere that applying early action could increase your chances. and according to this, it can really help you out depending on the school: http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/webex/Apply_earlynatudoc_brief.php

well, if you want to show colleges an upward trend, I suggest do RD. You may also get some more awards during that time so it's an added bonus.

The main advantage of EA is knowing by mid-December instead of mid-April whether or not you will be accepted. It usually offers no admissions boost.

That said, others have commented on how you'd like to show a senior year trend. The thing is, very few schools will outright reject anybody EA. They will defer you to ED.

So I would say apply EA because if you get in EA you will know by December, but if not, you will have another shot at it RD without having to send in anything else (other than mid-year grades).

And speaking of awards, they usually are the same between EA and RD. It's ED that often has reduced financial aid because they've already convinced you that they are your first choice.

Early DECISION usually has an advantage over regular decision. Early ACTION doesn't usually have an advantage.
