another question

Hey everyone. I have decided to apply to The University of Texas at Austin (aerospace eng.), but still not quite sure what my chances are..
I'll be taking SAT reasoning test and math C 2 in October this year.
Can u suggest me of how i can increase my chances of getting into the school?
How much the SAT scores matter to them?
What should i write in my essay to give them a good impression about myself?
I am by the way an international student and don't have financial resources to cover my tuition, living expenses, etc, is there any way the school will give me fin.aid?

It looks like there is some but very little available for internationals. [Financial Aid](http://www.utexas.edu/international/isss/students/financialaid/)

If you’re talking about needing very small amounts of FA, then UT-A offers the following…

There are two types of institutional loans that international students may access through the International Office in order to temporarily finance their studies:

* Tuition Loan ($4,000 maximum)

 • Emergency Cash Loan ($300 maximum)

4% interest will be charged annually per loan

Tuition Loans must be paid back to The University within 3 months of taking out the loan (two months if done during summer semester)

Emergency Cash Loans must be paid back to The University within 1 month of taking out the loan

Financial Aid up to $2,500 per semester is awarded 3 times a year [summer, fall, spring] to students who demonstrate financial need. This is a competitive process as the number of awards allotted per semester is limited.

Please note: General financial aid awarded by ISSS does not provide a waiver of the non-resident portion of a student’s tuition & fee bill.

As you can see, essentially, the answer is “no.” UT-A is not likely going to offer you FA that will make attending possible unless you need a small amount.

UT-A has a COA of about $45k per year.

**
How much can your family contribute? **

Since UT-A offers so little money to int’ls, I’m wondering if it’s mostly for int’ls who live in Texas and commute. I don’t see how anyone could pay almost all the OOS COA costs, come up a few thousand short, and then be able to “demonstrate” need - since such a person would obviously come from means.

Most (if not all) publics do not offer FA to internationals because their aid is often from taxpayer money.

Some publics will give merit money to int’ls because those funds are often from donors who don’t put restrictions on who can get them.

What is your situation? How much will your family pay each year?

mom2collegekids

Hmm…my parents are probably able to contribute up to 10.000USD per year. Can you suggest any other school which has both good aerospace engineering program and financial support to internationals?
And… Can someone honestly say if it is worth studying in the US, paying big $? will i be able to find a job in my field?
