So lets say i have a GPA of 2.7 with a couple Ds.( like 2-3) and applying for a CSU. Would i have a better chance of getting in if i had the same GPA, but with no Ds? I was just wondering. Thanks
- You need to have the minimum a-g course requirements completed by end of Senior year for the CSU’s which means C or better.
- Of course, C’s, B’s or A’s are better than D’s especially if you want to meet the a-g course requirements. A Math or a Foreign Language class with a D can be validated by taking a higher level class with a passing grade of C or higher.
For Science, History and English, you cannot validate these classes if you have a D, so you would have to repeat the class. - If you do not meet the a-g course requirements for the CSU’s, your application will not be considered so regardless of how you obtain your GPA, you still need to meet the a-g course requirement.
I did make up my courses, im just wondering that if someone has a 2.7 gpa with no Ds, will he/she have a better chance then i do. Or do CSUs base it upon GPA, knowing that you took all the a-g classes
I should say im am currently making up my courses
If you repeat the classes that you have a D, your repeat grade will be reported on your CSU application and not the D. Your repeat grades will be included into the CSU GPA and not the D’s.
Whoa what? This is news to me. So i got a D in 10th for Spanish. Im taking it over this year. So if i get a B, that will be calculated in my GPA, and the D will not? But i got the D in second semester, and i got a B first semester. Will the B i got in first semester be included?
If you had gotten the D first semester and the B second semester, your B would have validated the D and no retake necessary but the D would still be calculated into your GPA. Since your D was 2nd semester, you need to retake the whole year and these grades will be used in the GPA calculation. You can also take a higher level of Spanish, pass the class and this would validate your D from the lower level Spanish but again the D will be calculated into your CSU GPA.
From CSU website::::
Repeated courses are calculated once using the highest grade earned. When completing the online Mentor admission application, the repeated course is also only reported once using the highest grade earned.
