Another record-number of freshmen in the incoming class

As they have done for at least 5 or 6 years, PSU announced another ridiculously large freshman class – 8,600, about 500 more than the previous year. Remember, Penn State is not building dorms. They are incentivizing upperclassmen to move out by letting them get their deposit back; locals continue to receive a small monetary reward for living at home in the summer. The local apartment prices continue to rise, builders continue to build apartment complexes.

Penn State is over-admitting a lot of these kids in order compensate for the rise of tuition costs. Instead of finding a real solution to keep up with the rising cost, the incompetent administration is, in a way, using a shortcut by blindly accepting these kids without giving it a second thought. You can honestly cram 8,600 kids into a hellhole and expect the quality of education not to suck over time. The future of Penn State is not looking so good.

*can’t

I wonder if that is accepted or attending. Penn State has a 54% acceptance rate. Also, i wonder if that includes the other campuses.

that’s attending, at UP. Almost 1,000 more than previous year, and considerably more than the infrastructure can handle. Their hope must be that many of the freshmen will bail at the last second, or flunk out the first term. Which doesn’t say much in a positive way about PSU’s attitude, although they are offering $$ to locals and OOS students in various incentives to stay home, or choose a branch…

They are offering scholarships to people to go to commonwealth campus for a year because they accepted too many students. Now they dont have enough room for them.

Local media outlet interview the admissions office to get some sort of explanation of what happened…
