Another Retake Question

Hey guys,

I had a retake question about my November scores.

I know that it's usually pointless to retake anything above a 2300/2350/whatever you view the 'glass ceiling' to be. However, here are my scores:
CR - 800
Writing - 800
Math - 780?!

My problem is that math is by far my strongest subject, and possibly a potential college major. Given this, it seems that a 780 on math may be detrimental in admissions.

What do you guys suggest - retake, or just live with that 780?

Thanks a ton!

There is almost no reason for you to retake. Your score is ridculous, your scores are beyond Harvards 75th percentile, just make sure you do well with EC’s and your Essays which are very important after everything else is there.

Retaking at this point would just look neurotic.

Did you take Math II subject test?

780 in math may be detrimental in admissions

I hope that was a joke.

^Well, if OP wants to go into a math/science-related field and major in a math/science-related subject, there’s a bit of truth in that statement. I certainly wouldn’t say “detrimental,” but if his Subject Test/AP math scores aren’t the best, I’d assume that there would be some effect on his application.

Go ahead, but this November was surprisingly easy and I don’t think you can repeat that feat again very easily unless you are tremendously good at SATs.

Thanks a lot for the advice and replies, guys!

Quomodo: I did take Math2, and got an 800 on that, which should hopefully offset the 780 atleast partially.

Linger/314159265: I guess that kinda came off the wrong way, but I thought a 780 would be at least a slight negative in the ultracompetitive app pool for math/CS schools.

Gensis: Yeah, I know what you mean about the reading/writing being fairly easy. I would need to put in a substantial amount of practice in order to attain a 2400 next time, and I’m having trouble deciding if all of that time is really justified.

Thanks again, everyone!

(Also, happy Thanksgiving!)

If colleges see a high SAT2 score and lower SAT1 score, they should know that it’s just a simple mistake/careless error, which is to be expected over a long test like the SAT.

It shouldn’t have too much of a negative effect, methinks.

Bump? Any other thoughts? Thanks!
