So i know i posted a couple of threads like this one before but i reaally need some clarification here.
So i took a SAT official practice test (#10) and this is what i got:
Math: 800
Writing: 700-800 (approx 750)
Cr: 550-610 (approx. 580)
Total: 2130/2400
So my problem here is with the critical reading. On like three other practice tests i have taken, i have consistently gotten from 650-680 but now i get a about a 580!!!! WHAT the heck. The same happened before except that timee it was the writting section in which my score lowered from the usuall mid 700's to a 660 and the math lowered from the usual 800 to a 770. Is this normal? Do scores fluctuate 100 points? If not, then what's happenening here?
I think the major problem with this practice test is that i didn't have enough time for the CR but i always have enough time for it. How do i improve upon that?

Read good literature, like Hawthorne and Orwell, try to figure out the main idea, that’s the majority of the SAT CR section. Build your vocab, have a dictionary while you read, use the word of the day feature on dictionary websites, and look up SAT vocab stuff online, no need to go and buy a book for it. My CR score didn’t vary, but both my math and writing scores varied by 80-90 points in the two times I took the SAT. Good thing colleges superscore. Good luck!

No offfense Biggie__Smalls but i don’t believe in that hocus pocus reading stuff…I’ve read when i was a freshmen through sophmore year and at that time i was scoring in the 620-640. But after i stopped reading and took a practice test to see how much i improved in the CR, it was only by a good 30-40 points.

^That’s the problem. You stopped reading. Not that I believe that reading is going to do much either, but still…in order for it to have any chance of success, it can’t be on and off.

Practice is the best way. And yes, fluctuations happen, don’t worry about it. people make mistakes from time to time.

I found that reading classics really helped in CR. I’ve read like 10 classics this summer and I can actually understand a lot more when I read CR passages. I was getting like 640-720 (got 700 on the June test) before reading the books and now I get around 750.
