So I'm sure you are all sick of seeing people posting their schedules and asking for help, but I could really use some advice from people who have taken these classes.

My dilemma is that I have signed up for 7 APs, but because my school only offers each AP 1-2 periods per day, I believe I will have a scheduling conflict and have to drop one. So if I have to, which of these would you guys suggest:

Biology
US Government
Statistics
English Literature
Physics C
Spanish Language
World History

Forgot to mention that I have to take Gov and English Lit to meet certain requirements from my school. So those two I can’t really drop.

“Spanish - drop it.” Care to elaborate? I’ve always enjoyed Spanish, but if there’s some reason not to take it, I’d be interested to hear it…

I’ve been thinking World/Bio are my top 2 choices to drop at this point…but not definite…

On a side note, does anyone else’s high school have really stupid credit requirements that keep you from taking the AP courses you really want to take?

My high school doesn’t have any requirements for APs (but we do have to take 4 eng, 4 socials, 3 maths, 3 sciences).

Well if you like Spanish that much, then take it. However, since you do want to cut down of your APs, Spanish is the best choice. It’s going to help in college that much. From what I hear, the course is more centered on culture that the other classes (less basis on grammar, relatively).

I would drop World History. Bio is cool, in my opinion, but you can drop it depending on your college major (the class would help a lot if you do plan on taking Bio in college).

Example: I still need to take JROTC (stupid district requirement), Gym/Heath (all 4 years), and I have to take two English electives (Done).

The max I can take next year is 4 APs and my guidance counselor doesn’t seem so optimistic about me trying to self-study for a 5th one.

I think you should drop WH - the reason being is that you do some knowledge (and skills - especially you intend to major in that field in college) about the labs for AP Biology Exam.

In my opinion, AP World is a very interesting class! I enjoyed learning about all of the cultures and things around the world… and Bio is very interesting as well! I have taken them both and enjoyed (most) of the subject matter.

I think it would help to know what you plan to study, as other people have already said, and any other APs you have taken, but…

I just took AP World History and it wasn’t that hard. The most difficult part was that my teacher was an idiot. That being said, I did a lot of self-studying for that class and you could easily do the same.

I liked Spanish Language, and since you said that you enjoyed Spanish as well, I don’t think you should drop it. As brownman23 said, there is less emphasis on grammar, but if you’ve been taking Spanish for awhile, then you should be pretty solid on that. My teacher did give us vocab, and would go over a specific grammar topic if the class really needed it, but there’s more emphasis on actually using the language as opposed to “Here’s a list of verbs, conjugate them, and then translate these pointless sentences”.

I haven’t taken World History - I can’t speak for that, but I did take AP Bio this year. Conceptually, there wasn’t anything in particular that I found to be difficult. Some things are slightly difficult at first, but you eventually get the hang of it.

Both are obviously memorization intensive classes, but at the same time they were pretty straightforward. With biology, there is overwhelming amount of material to learn, which is the biggest challenge, especially if your class is behind. I’m guessing World History is more or less the same in terms of the volume of the material.

Also, how about the quality of teachers in those classes?

World History or Bio. It all depends on whether you’re going into sciences in college or not. These two require a lot of memorization. To have them both together would just melt your brain.

^ False. Completely doable and MANY do it without a problem.

You should instead focus on maximizing what you can get out of these courses, and decide which course to drop in that manner. My suggestion for AP Lit is because it really will not introduce you to much knowledge or enhance your education from my experience with it. It also won’t expose you to the different areas of studies which is important to do prior to entering college.

Stat is definitely not a hard class, don’t drop it. If your major is science-related don’t drop bio or physics either. World history is pretty fun as well. Gov is easy but probably boring, so i’d drop that, english lit or spanish, but spanish isn’t that bad either.
i say drop english lit

It’s doable, I know. I would love to take World along with Bio too because they’re my favorite subjects. But realistically, I wouldn’t do this because it comes with a heavy cost. This guy might have other extracurriculars. That means he won’t finish hw/studying until very late at night. I know many kids who have Bio and U.S–which is easier than World–and they practically want to kill themselves, especially when they have tests on the same day.

How would you describe these students, academically, that complain about this? For I know of students who complain about this as well. However, I don’t know of any serious achievers in my school that complain about it, at least not in a serious manner that would be considered a complaint.
