1) what is a typical & good number of pillows, pillowcases, sheets, and towels to bring? is two of each fine, or should i bring as many as seven towels (one for each day of the week)

2) did anyone actually bring or need the "plate, cup, and set of utensils" that berkeley has on its "What to Bring" list?

3) berkeley helps set up your internet connection during welcome week, correct? is this internet connection free?

4) is there a convenience store near or even on campus that sells basic items such as detergent, shampoo, etc.?

5) does anyone actually use landline dorm phones?...i think i'd be fine just using my cell

Two of each is fine. You'll be doing laundry on a pretty regular basis (I hope, depending on how many clothes you'll bring) so you're going to be fine with that. Any more and they're more than likely going to sit around unused and occupying space.

Plates/Cups/Utensils are good to have. If you're living in the dorms, most of your meals are going to be at the DC. But it never hurts to have some kitchenware around if you want to get some juice at Safeway, or eat Cup Noodles or whatever.

If you're living in the dorms, then yeah you'll have free internet. They will have instructions to help you set up internet (plus you can ask your floormates). If you're still having a lot of trouble, don't worry - ResComp (Residential Computing) will make rounds throughout the first few weeks and pop their heads in your door and ask if you need any help, multiple times.

There are a few convenience stores around campus. If you're living in south side (Unit 1,2,3), theres a Walgreens that just opened up on Telegraph across from Chipotle.

No one that I knew used the landline phones. Cell phones are more than enough.

this is probably a choice of how often you want to do laundry. i had a change of sheets, 4 bath towels and 2 pillows. i did laundry almost every week. worked out okay for me.

my mom packed 2 place setting, never used them and she brought them back to so cal on a trip to visit. what i found useful was a package of disposable plates, plastic forks and spoons. red cups too...

theres a mandatory internet meeting the first week, then you will get set up. internet is in included in your dorm fees. res com services are free also.

there's a safeway not too far away, also a drug store on telegraph 1 block from campus for buying what you need.

my mom packed a phone, never plugged it in and never knew the number in my room. you get charged for it even if you don't use it (at the end of each semester.) i used my cell phone only. worked most of the time in the room, best by the windows and never in my bathroom (I was in a suite) or elevator.

I think 2-4 towels is fine. I don't see the need for two pillows...maybe another cover when you put the first in the laundry.

Depends on what you eat. They do have some food items in the Den and Bear Market that you can microwave and you'll need a fork for that, but that's if you get those. If you want to buy some milk and cereal for breakfast instead of going to the DC you'll need a bowl and spoon. Same if you want to stock on ramen.

The internet is free and pretty fast and dependable. There's in-room cable connection and wireless.

There should be a Walgreen's on Telegraph soon which is about a block away from campus. There's Long's (drugstore) on Shattuck a few blocks away, and Safeway on College a bit away for groceries.

Use the landline phone if you're interested in hearing from real estate agents. Otherwise don't bother.

Dorms didnt come with a frige when I last lived there, so you might start thinking about bringing a small refrigerator or hope that people on your floor have a frige and are willing to share with you. XD!

Yeah, most people bring microwaves and fridges. Work it out with your roommate(s) if you want so that there aren't multiple appliances if can just share.

Generally if you have a triple, a good idea is for each person to bring one of the following: mini-fridge, microwave, and television. The television might not be a good idea if you want good grades though.
