Okay heres my situation and I want to know if I'm in the safety or danger zone.
After taking my summer classes I came to a total of 31 semester units, but I realized that in order to be eligible for tag, you need 30 semester units or 45 quarter units from UC transferrable classes. I have one class that was worth 5 semester units but sadly it was not transferable because it was a prerequsite for a higher math class. So I ended up having 26 semester units(40quarter units) by the end of summer 2010 making me ineligible for tag since you need 45 quarter units.

BUT,

I luckily took and passed an AP U.S history exam in highschool and passed with a 3. And according to UCSD, the total credit they grant for that ap exam is 5.33 quarter units, if I add that to my overall uc-transferable courses and it becomes 45 quarter units making me eligible again.

I gave my ap results to my admissions office today and they said it will take a few weeks for it to be inputted into my transcript.

So my question is this, will the UCs immediately deny me if they don't see that I took the AP U.S history exam, since the UC tag deadline is at september 30th, and the admissions office said it will take several weeks for them to input it into my transcript? Will the UCs IMMEDIATELY check the uc tag admission after you submit it? Or will my ap u.s history credit be determined as a before summer credit or 2010 fall credit? I'm worried about this because they said you have to have 45 quarter units by the end of summer 2010, so I don't know if this 5 quarter units will be counted as before summer or not. I took the ap exam in highschool 2008.

Sorry I asked so many question, but I will greatly appreciate it if anyone can have any input on this.

Wow. This is a tricky one. Okay so you won’t automatically get rejected regardless of what happens here. No, your TAG may not go through due to the complications with your AP test, but you could still be admitted without TAG.

TAG just gives you the guarantee.

If the AP tests do work, your next question is about whether they will clear TAG in time. Your CCC counselor signs off on your TAG sheet if/when it’s complete. Ultimately, if it’s not complete, he/she won’t sign off on it, and it won’t go to the UC for approval. If your AP’s -do- arrive in time, then everything will be okay.

Thus, worst case scenario: Your TAG doesn’t work out for whatever reason. However, you’ll still be able to apply and probably will be admitted if your GPA is 3.2+.

Thank you for your input! Ah =/ I would really love an admission guarantee, it will make it a lot easier on me. I’m going to meet with my counselor on thursday and hopefully be able to work something out.

You’re not sure if it won’t work? because technically I did do my ap exam way before 2010 so it should count as credit before summer 2010 right? >< Ah this is so confusing, I just wonder why it takes the admission office so long to input this into my transcript.

Anyways, if anyone else have input on this, it will help me a lot thanks.

You’re actually kinda lucky because…wait for it…UCSD doesn’t send out TAG decisions until Jan/Feb. At least, I didn’t get mine until February 7th.

This will likely work in your favor. However, that TAG sheet, itself, may need to be in by a certain point…

Where does it say you have to have 30 credits by the end of summer? I thought it was just that 30 had to be from a California Community College?

WELL, YOU MAY BE RIGHT, for some odd reason, I always thought they said 30 uc transferable semester units by the end of summer 2010, BUT now that I checked the UCSD tag website right now to clarify your statement… and it says :“You have completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at a CCC by end of spring 2011:”

and btw regarding my situation, I talked to my counselor and she said I had nothing to worry about, she said that the AP testing didnt have to be on my transcript, and all that I have to do now after I submitted my ap test results to my admissions office, is when I apply during nov.1-nov 30. is to check/mark whatever I need to, to show that I took the test or something.

This is just for future references to anyone who has a similar problem like me.

When I went to the TAG meeting the counselor we had (who coordinates the UCSD TAG program with all the local CCs) said that this year, the TAG app isn’t even essential. So if you forget/decide too late and just fill out the regular UC app and check “TAG” you’ll still be considered for TAG, you just won’t find out until March/April whether you’ve been admitted.

Next year is when the TAG app is going to be absolutely required.

People often have credits from other states (not from a CCC) but are still UC transferable and count towards the total 60, but not the 30 CCC credits. I’m pretty sure you just have to have thirty from the CCC by the time you transfer.

Because UCSD’s website, which seems like the best place to get the information, says this:

Are you eligible?

o You have been enrolled at one or more CCCs for at least 2 regular terms (excludes summer sessions)
o You have completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at a CCC by end of spring 2011
o You are attending a CCC as your last college before UC San Diego admission (excludes summer sessions)

I have 62 transferable units, but only 12 of those are from a CCC. From the looks of it, my TAG will be approved. I received a message on the TAG website that said “Have met the UCD TAG criteria.” So I think it’s just 30 credits “transferable” and they do not HAVE to be at a CCC – you just have to be currently enrolled at a CCC for this semester and for the rest of the year – with UCSD as the exception.
