I met with a representative from Davis a couple days ago, and she actually got my hopes up about getting my TAG approved for a major I originally thought I was for sure unable to get into.
I have solid B's in all my prepeqs with a couple A's and one pesky C. I have the minimum GPA for TAG and my entire IGETC is finished. I originally thought TAGing into the Biotechnology major was out of the question because that C i received was in the first class in the bio sequence. And according to the UC Davis TAG website:
"If one course from the biological sciences group is completed at the time the TAG is submitted, that course must be completed with a B grade or higher."
But when I brought it up with the representative, she said as long as I receive a B in the bio class I'm currently in (the second in the sequence), I'm guaranteed admission.
DO I BELIEVE HER OR THE WEBSITE? I had a friend deal with the same kind of problem last year when he tagged to Irvine. Representative told him one thing, admissions website told him another. And he ended up losing his TAG because of the discrepancy. I don't want to risk it! Can anyone confirm which source is correct? This makes me nervous!

Call Davis’ admissions department for a second opinion. They don’t bite, I promise.

You should talk to the TAG rep for your community college. Davis gives its reps a lot of freedom in terms of making exceptions, so if your TAG rep waives the requirement, you are good.

Thank you both very much. I’ve spoken with a couple different people and they both recommended that I try it, however the risk is pretty high. Kind of disappointing but there are always challenges like this.
Thanks again!

What the rep was referring to was another part of that requirement -

“By the end of spring 2013, if courses comparable to two UC Davis Biological Sciences courses or the entire Biological Sciences series are completed, a group GPA of 2.50 or higher is required.”

Since you got a C in the first class, and if you get a B in the 2nd class, assuming that meets two of UC Davis’ Bio classes, your average GPA would be 2.50, therefore fulfilling the requirement.

However, it does say you need to have a 3.0 BEFORE submitting your TAG, which you do not meet, so I don’t think they’ll approve your TAG.

Thank you alpha. I’ve decided to tag to another UC to be on the safe side and apply through regular admissions to Davis come November. It’s disappointing but I think it’s just what I gotta do!
Thanks again to everyone who helped. You probably all saved me from a rejection!
