ok, so originally i was going to get a teacher recommendation from my AP US history teacher and my AP French teacher...but I heard that Yale prefers one English/history/language recommendation and one math/science recommendation. My French teacher will undoubtedly write a better rec than any math or science teacher that I've had...who should I go with?

That's a tough call. Did you not perform well in math/science classes, or do you just get the impression your teachers aren't good writers (they are math/science people)? A technical-subject person would be better, of course, but you should ask the people who know you best. If you want to go into humanities, it should be fine.

Go with the one that will write you a better rec. Our Yale admissions rep told us definitely to get letters from teacher who will write you the best recs possible. I'm getting one English and one history and the teachers who wrote them knew me and loved me. The Yale rep even went on to tell us that humanities teachers tended to write the best letters. Science/math teachers tended to be critical....or at least not as verbose.

yep, im getting two english teacher recs and ones from 10th grade- go with who knows you, loves you, and will write a great rec
