Hi all- it's been wonderful gaining some insight on here about transferring- feeling pretty lost about it all! I wanted to throw out some stats and possible schools and get any feedback possible as to how realistic I'm being...

I'm in my sophomore year (Have a few more credits from AP as well...) @ the University of Arizona (Eller), and am looking to transfer out...

HS GPA: 3.8 W, 3.7 UW
SAT: 1390
College GPA: 3.45 (This is my huge weakness, ACCT kicked my backside...
This is exp. cumulative after this semester...:/ However that GPA comes with an exp. 4.0 semester this time around, so it'll show an improvement in grades, not sure if that's helpful...)
Major: Finance/Communications
Looking to stay within Finance, or apply out of the ultra competitive business schools to pursue a degree in Economics, which I find equally interesting.
Minor: Spanish

-I have several well credentialed professors to write recs...
-Two internships under my belt with decent orgs- Race for the Cure/Susan Komen being one... Now a Team Leader on the Race organizing committee for the 3rd year in a row... Up for an internship with Procter and Gamble in Summer 2008.
-Am attending on scholarship for exemplary community service, President's Award for Community Service, Project Manager for a local non-profit fundraising/grants program.
-Work @ Starbucks.
-Extracurriculars- competitive figure skating/coach (coached until our rink here closed this summer...), piano, community service, journalism.
HS activities- President of Journalism, NHS, Spanish NHS, etc.

I'm looking @ applying to transfer to:
University of Washington (Seattle)
University of Pittsburgh
Denver University

Reach schools that I would LOVE to go to:
Carnegie Mellon
UT Austin
U Chicago

Thank you so much for reading through this and for any insight or advice you might have to offer- I appreciate it! :)

Thanks- I'm thinking about applying just for the heck of it- never know unless you try, right? Before the deadline, I have the opportunity to do a couple winter classes, which would bring me above a 3.5 too.... Seems like that's a magical number in some circles.

Any other insights? I really appreciate it!

ixjunitxi, the OP is correct that those are reach schools. ECs are good, but GPA is low and if the expected GPA this semester isn't reached, then it will be even lower.

You have a shot at those schools, but acceptance/rejection is 50/50 at best.

Too bad you're out of state for UT Austin... I think otherwise you'd stand a very good chance.

Carnegie Mellon is no good for transfers. It is extremely difficult to transfer there, esp. for Teppers because it has a limited number of seats.

Alright, so after doing some research and hearing thoughts on this board, I'm thinking my revised list would look something like this:

Seems Reasonable:
Denver U
Univ. of Pitt
Univ. of Washington

Reaches: (These are the ones I'd loooove to go to... :/)
UT Austin (either business in McCombs, or Econ in College of Liberal Arts...)
NYU (Stern)

Dreaming:
Emory

On a different note, it looks like my college GPA will hit about a 3.51 after this semester... Dean's List from it... Might that magical 3.5+ GPA help?
Any suggestions on how to possibly have a chance at any of these? Am I wasting my time?

Thanks tons- I sincerely appreciate all the help thus far... :)

Applied through my college... I'm not a lock for it yet- actually being a sophomore (they're looking for juniors and seniors mostly) it's prolly a longshot, but I'm at the third round, waiting to hear back... Either way, I'm glad I've gotten this far this early!
