Another UCLA Rescind Thread

So I got into UCLA for Fall 2010 as a biochem major but on my provisional contract it said this: "Maintain the grade point average and complete the courses and number of units you reported in your application and in any subsequent course updates."

Everything is fine for spring but on my update in Jan I said I was going to take linear algebra and a bio class over summer. The bio class isn't even being offered this summer (it was offered last summer so I figured it would be again) and linear algebra isn't required for la. I have 80 something units and IGETC so the math is an elective, but I'm over math so I don't want to take it if I don't have to.

So my question is whether I can get rescinded for not taking these classes over summer. Even though one is out of my control and the other is an elective. I called the admissions office but I realized 5 min into being on hold that they were closed on saturdays..

Report the changes on the update form (here: [New Bruins - Reporting Changes - Transfer Students - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/NewBruins/Changes_Transfer.htm) ). You should be fine if it’s not a major preq.

Thank you. I was going to send that in but I wanted to talk to a counselor first. The bio is a major pre req but I can’t really do anything about it. Thank you.

Well if you can’t really do anything about it, then it’s not particularly your fault. However, I would look into seeing if you could possibly take it at another community college. If it’s possible, then you should write in on the form as an option you are considering, so that they can tell you what to do next instead of rescinding you (if they were going to).

I just looked through assist, org and found a cc in my cc’s district that counts as the same ucla class (LS 2) if combined with the bio class im taking right now(but at their school). Im not sure how the it will all work out but ill call them on monday and get everything squared away. The bio class is during the math class so I can’t take both. Thanks

^ UCLA and Cal aren’t suppose to consider Summer courses in admissions decisions for this very reason. You might want to check if they even expect you to take those courses. Unless it lists these classes in your provisional contract, they probably don’t expect you to take them.

I was under the assumption that UCLA lists ALL courses that you say that you will take in the provisional contract (even those you plan to take during the summer) when it says : Maintain the grade point average and complete the courses and number of units you reported in your application and in any subsequent course updates.

Did I misinterpret?

It didn’t list any classes it’s a pretty default form letter sounding thing.

Maintain Academic Performance
Maintain the grade point average and complete the courses and number of units you reported in your application and in any subsequent course updates. You must be in good standing at your last institution of attendance. Also, if you attended another UC campus in regular session prior to enrollment at UCLA, you must have been in good standing when you left that UC campus. Notify our office immediately of any withdrawals, incomplete grades, drop in academic performance [including any D and F grades], or other changes to your class schedule. [See Contacting UCLA section.]

when i logged into the reporting changes thing it had those classes listed. I have no idea what to do now because the class I found is a ge bio class.

I know Cal doesn’t take them into consideration. I remember reading that when I did the separate update. If I get rescinded from la I guess ill go there. UCLA might take summer prereqs into consideration to insure you get out quick when your major is impacted. None of the cc around me (or UCs) are offering comparable bio classes (except the ge class) so unless I start commuting to a summer ucla class I just have to wait to see how it goes.

Alright man, tell me what happens.

For sure, I’ll post it in this thread as I find things out. Either as a lesson in not being to far sighted in your application updates or that summer classes don’t matter.

See my post history for more threads on UCLA rescind issues. You sound okay, I know its stressful. Believe me.

I read your threads LandSpeed congrats on not getting rescinded. Hope to be saying the same in a few days.

If anyone if in the same spot I found this on the application site FAQ:

"May students complete required coursework the summer before fall enrollment?

Universitywide
Though some campuses do accept coursework completed the summer before fall enrollment, students should be encouraged to complete required coursework earlier. It is not unusual for a student to wait until the summer term to complete units and then be unable to complete those units or to enroll in and complete an appropriate course — thereby jeopardizing UC admission.

…

UCLA
All required coursework is to be completed by the end of spring before fall admission."

Which I read as saying that I completed everything I was required to before spring, or they wouldn’t have admitted me. So the summer prereq classes are just gravy and I should be ok bailing on them.

if you were to get rescinded, by when would you know? not until after they receive your transcripts right?

I’m gonna send in the form tonight and they will tell you in 5-7 (business?) days if the changes affect your admission, which is, at the latest next, next Tuesday. But without the update they wouldn’t rescind until they figured out I never sent in summer transcripts which is in September or something. And they would probably rescind solely on the fact that I never told them.
