Another UCR VS UCSC

Since these are the only schools i probably will get accepted into i guess i should start deciding which one i would rather go to. I am going to major in electrical engineering. Which one of these offers a better program? Also which one is better for focus in robotics? Also which one of these schools has better research option for freshmen/sophomores and what about internship?

Also how do minors work in each of the college?

Which college has better labs, equipment, and other stuff like that?

How are the class sizes in each college?
How's the food?

What are some perks about going to each college?
What are the cons of going to each college

I was also wondering if you can help me decide which one i would better fit in.

I am Asian and majority of my friends are Asian but at the same time i still would like a diverse school but maybe with a pretty good amount of Asian people. I'm pretty good with people but not much of a party person. I actually am pretty smart and would like to be with people that can help me improve. I already know about UCR's housing and how Pentland is the most "private" one how about in UCSC? Are there rooms that are like Pentland, or better as in you don't have to share a bathroom with a HUGE amount of people so there is privacy (i like my space :D). For housing at UCSC I'm thinking of doing Crown but what do you guys think? I want to be somewhere that has lots "smart" people but not with same major. It would be nice to have people that have different majors, though there should be engineer majors :D. Also a place that looks nice and has a nice room (you nice as it can get), come on you don't want to be stuck in an ugly place. Which one would have more access to different places in the campus? How are each dorm designed?

Also any other information that you can give about each college that i forgot to ask :D

Forgot to add how are the libraries in each school as in are there lots of books and resources and places to just hang out, study, campus looks.

Edit 1: forgot to add this with housing which one has the least to no drug usage because i am agaisnt drugs and what not. I mean if you want to do drugs go do it in corner somewhere that doesn’t bother me is pretty much how i see it

^can I only edit my post once?

I forgot to type that I am also interested in nano-technology.

Question about bathrooms
I read that they are community? bathroom but are there curtains or something of that sort so there is privacy?

lol i think it’s better to ask those kind of questions when you go campus tour. The tour guides can give you detailed explanations about everything that you need to know.

UCSC for nano-technology, as UCSC and Silicon Valley are closely connected, offering exclusive engineering courses at Silicon Valley, as well as numerous internships offered for engineering majors; it’ll be a lot easier to obtain a job after graduation therefore.

You should consider College 9/10, as it is the closest to the main engineering facility, so it’ll be a no-pain to get there. The food is always great, it is the only college that opens every day of the week, whereas Crown closes during weekend. However, the housing at 9/10 is a bit more expensive.

There are two libraries- science and engineering library, and McHenry library, which is currently undergoing construction (estimated to be finished this year). You can find more info here [University Library](http://library.ucsc.edu/)

UCR actually is worse than UCSC in all aspects, IMO… unless you like being in the desert. It’s up to you… good luck

“UCR actually is worse than UCSC in all aspects, IMO… unless you like being in the desert. It’s up to you… good luck”

this is the reason why bias always happens when you post questions like this on one-side’s forum. Anyways, good luck on your college research.

^I know bias stuff happens that is why I posted it this in UCR’s forum as well :D

So does anyone know how UCR is with nana-tech? Aren’t they supposed to be getting/have? this new building for it?

Also can I get some more info about UCSC’s nano-tech, as in I know that there are lots of potential internships but how about the courses?

[Nanotechnology - UCSC Biomedical Research](http://biomedical.ucsc.edu/Nanotechnology.html) - UCSC
You can get a lot of information from each website.

If i want to try for a transfer to dream colleges (WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY up there  and some not as high) which of these will allow for me to build a stronger application.

i don’t think it’s a good idea to go to either school if you are planning to transfer to another school. It’s better to go to community college because most colleges give priority to CC students. I know some students that transfer from a UC to a better UC, but they told me how it was a HUGE stress for them because they had to take some classes that are not really applicable to their own school. The course plan is different from each school, so you would have to take some classes that counts in another school, but doesn’t count in your own school. See assist.org for more details.

If you really don’t like UCR or UCSC, then it’s better to go to CC and transfer to your dream school.

I want to try to transfer to other schools, not just UC so the reason why I think it would be better to go to a UC then transfer is because it would have more options available to make a stronger application. Also I have personal reasons where staying at home isn’t really an option so yea…

Also can someone help decide on a dorm if i go to UCSC?
I will be an EE major so i would prefer to be around other engineers but not just engineers, a nice portion should be engineers. I don’t want to be near alcohol/drugs…I mean if you have to do drugs or drink go ahead just don’t be near me. I want to be in a place where its quiet but at the same time not antisocial. I’m not a huge party person or anything but I do enjoy being with people. I also have an issue with bathrooms. I am not expecting my own personal bathroom or anything of that sort…just in the community? communal? bathroom are there any curtains or something separating individuals? I mean something that gives a bit of privacy. Just a small concern I have.
I was thinking of doing college 9/10 or crown but I’m not really sure.

I think crown fits your criteria. as for the bathrooms they all have stalls for the toilets and the showers have curtains separating them. Crown also houses less people on their floors then college 9/10 I believe so you might be sharing with less people
