Another undecided one! :( --> Brown vs Columbia, Stanford and Harvard

go to Harvard
that way, you and I will meet at The Game
lol
jp
follow your heart. You applied so you had to have a top choice.

Reading what you want and what people have said, it almost seems like going to Brown should be a no brainer… what is your opinion OP?

It does seems so at times and I have a full day filled with fantasizing about Brown and how awesome Brown’s gonna be…

…followed by a day of fantasizing about Columbia and how Columbia has better location, better resources, better reputation, etc etc.

I change my mind every day, literally. I might just sit down on Apr 30th and make a statistical analysis of which college had most days of fantasizing and just pick that one.

This whole thing is haunting me.
I feel like accepting Brown, but the better reputation and bigger cities bug me.
I feel like accepting Columbia, but the too big city and the somehow “cold” feel bug me.
I feel like accepting Harvard, but the pretentiousness and social life bugs me.

I’ll decline all offers and live out of a box. EOD.

Don’t discount the importance of academics. Do you want a core curriculum or not? Also, have you had a look through the schools’ course catalogs?

Well, about the core curriculum - coming from a country where I never ever ever ever got to choose a SINGLE course - everything was predefined, 20 yearlong courses per year, every year, having a core wouldn’t be so shocking.

I don’t see it as such a big deal. It still allows you to do some fooling around with multiple major options, right?

And as for the course catalogs, I’m beggining my thorough evaluation the second our Spring break starts, which is tomorrow.

Columbia has a better reputation than Brown? I only hear these kinds of ideas from highschoolers on this board. Where do they get their info?

Columbia is more well-known than Brown. Whether it has a better reputation is, of course, up for debate.

In NY, in my experience, there is preference for Brown, but that could be due to a lack of NYC mystique drawing students in.

If you want a good party scene, it would be hard to beat NYC, gay or otherwise. Also, the academics at Columbia are very good. I would consider it a bit more. I think you might be looking a BIT too mcuh into names (mainly, Harvard).

Perhaps you are referring to being more well-known in foreign countries?

Definitely, as that’s where I’m planning to work (Europe).
