Another URM Thread

I’m applying for VANDY, ( i was thinking about applying for other schools like the Ivys but i didn’t want leave the South, so i didn’t want to waist more money in applications and stamps) My stats aren’t that splendid. I was involved in a few club like Art, French, Soccer, Football, Red Cross, i did a few community services; My GPA is a 3.97 out of 4; i took mostly honors, AP, and College Courses, and SAT score is not that great but had a 32 in the ACT (which i haven’t sent to VANDY yet) and blah blah blah…

TO GET TO THE POINT OF THE THREAD… AS I WAS SCANNING THE FORUM, I READ A BUNCH OF POST TALKIN ABOUT WHO IS A URM OR WHO IS NOT. I’M FROM A LITTLE ISLAND CALLED HAITI…HAITIAN IS NOT A BREED YOU WILL FIND EASILY IN THE BIG UNIVERSITIES. IN FACT, I LOOK AT SOME STATS ABOUT THE NATIONALITY OF THE UNDERGRADUATE CLASSES (2003-2007) OF THE TOP 20 SCHOOLS, I BELIEVE THEY IN TOTAL HAD LESS THAN 100 HAITIAN WITH HARVARD AND COLUMBIA HAVING THE MOST. SINCE I FALL IN THIS CATEGORY TOO, DID I MAKE A MISTAKE NOT APPLYING TO THE IVYS? IS MY ETHNICITY A SPIKE FOR MY CHANCE TO GET IN VANDY, OR A BUMP?

ps: if i got rejected by Vandy, i’ll go to U of Fl or FSU for a year then take a chance at the IVys this time and Vandy again

The caps-lock button probably had something to do with your lack of comments.

If I'm not mistaken, you'll be considered as an international applicant, not a URM.

I used the caps-lock to deviate people's eyes from the first section (I'm so stupid). i won't capitalize every word again.
I've been in the United States for almost 5 years so i don't think they'll consider me as an international applicant.

r u black? or white?

yes i'm black

then u're probably a URM... as long as ur a US citizen or permanent resident.

thats a good question. if ur a permanent resident, and a citizen of a country that doesn't have much representation at a university. does that help at all?
