another "what are my chances"...dont feel too good about 'em

SAT I: 710 M, 630 V (retake in December)
SAT II's: 630 MIIc, 710 Chem, 720 Writing
GPA: 4.14 weighted (4.22 senior yr so far); Rank: 6/80 (small, really tough college prep. private school)
ACT: 30 (converts to the EXACT same SAT score...it annoys the hell out of me)

AP: Chemistry (4); Lit and Comp (3)
Senior courses:
Early American Lit, Film Lit, AP Biology, AP Art History, AP Calculus BC, Conceptual Physics, Latin 5

My counselors really liked my essays, so those are okay, I'm a National Merit semifinalist, student council representative, math club secretary, Mu Alpha Theta honor society, National Honor Society, Latin National Honor Society, Key Club, volunteer at Manatee Memorial Hospital (200+ hrs), 350+ hrs so far in all volunteer services, National Youth Leadership Forum Medicine (washington d.c.), might do Harvard Model Congress Russia if accepted, State Champions Varsity Tennis 2004, district champs. 10-12, regional champs. 11-12, Tutor students at my school in math, science (job)

So, thats some of my stuff, I have awards of excellence and things like that, but these are the major extracurriculars and awards. Also, I'm Indian from Florida- want to do medicine, trying for those programs too...i'd appreciate the honesty...im retaking my sat's in december and im gonna study for this one...so, please, any advice, or any idea on how i'll fare in applying to dartmouth would be great...THANKS!

by "Indian" do you mean "Native American" or do you mean from India?

Because if you are Native American, your chances are excellent. Dartmouth is very committed to recruiting American Indians.

no such luck...parents from india, dad's been a doctor here for like 25 years or something...im getting a rec from someone at NIH, but that prolly wont do any good...i guess thats more for the med. programs im applying to (those are like a 1 in a million chance of me gettin in)

anybody else insights into chances at dartmouth? or even...northwestern, wash u st.louis, davidson, tufts, bu...those are all my reaches...i pretty much dropped gtown and columbia from my list

is anyone going to answer?...i know this isnt a very exciting post or anything, but i really really really would appreciate any insight on my chances at the schools mentioned...

I would (from what I see... it looks liek you have a pretty good chance), but I hardly feel qualified to answer.

I would try to bring up my SAT scores a bit if I were you. But everything else looks fine.

okay, thats fine...i really just wanted to make sure i didnt completely waste my time applying to dartmouth...i hate how people at my school ask me where im applying, then tell me not to apply cuz they are, and they say i have no chance, so i should drop the school

yeah, im gonna try as hard as possible to raise my sat's...ive been studying for a few weeks now, i know its kinda rushed...hoping, no, praying to get a 1400 at least...

oh, sry to keep adding stuff, ive been a member of the district champion academic team for 3 years running...

People really say that stuff? How awful! The calidictorian from my school is applying, we both hope that the other ges in- and the third ranked person in my class will apply if he doesn't get accepted SCEA to Harvard- we all encourage each other. Don't ever not apply just to increase another person's chance or because others say it's "pointless." You should always reach for your dreams... and in this case it doesn't even seem like you'd have to reach that far. You have a chance, don't let some jerk intimidate you.

oh yeah, and what is the distric champion academic team?

thanks werd...i appreciate the encouragement...especially since no one in my school is decent enough to do the same...except for my friend who's writing my peer eval...that kid is great...

oh, academic team is a series of district competitions (4) throughout the year where there are school teams and we all compete in math, science, eng., history, foreing lang...all that good stuff...its the press a buzzer and whoever's fastest gets to answer type dealy...

heh, that's sounds leet

(short for elite, lol)

wow, i was just about to ask you that...its pretty cool (i have a shot at going to states this year, its sweet)

oh, btw, does anyone have any tips on SAT verbal? ive been doing tests and stuff, but it just never seems to be enough...

Just don't try reading into the questions too much (on the reading comp, at least). Sometimes the questions that they pose are more straightforward than you really think and you end up overanalyzing the question and getting the wrong answer because of that.

hmm...yeah, i missed 10 reading comp, 3 analogies, and 4 sent. completions...it was painful to look at the score report
