yeah, it is possible for me to make C/2lt, I am testing next week and then I can get it on June 24, because my last promotion was April 24.

Yeah, I joined CAP the spring semester of my junior year. Through a lot of hard work (or so it seemed at the time), I got C/CMSgt a little more than a month before I-day.

BTW, a word to the wise (from experience). CAP is good, and will help you now, but cadets don't like it when you talk about your CAP or JROTC experiences. A fair number of us were involved in the same programs before we came, and some people feel like you're trying to make yourself out to be better than everyone else if you talk about CAP or JROTC alot after I-day, even if you're just sharing helpful information. So, don't bring your CAP or JROTC shirts with you on I-day...

I just found out about CAP a few weeks ago. There is literally a squadran 3 miles from my house. I just got done with my junior year and I play baseball and work in the summer. Should I join? What kinds of things do you do?

Totally up to you. You will learn some basic drill (marching). May get an orientation flight in. Learn a little about the AF. Each squadron is different some are better organized, but they all follow the same book. Go by and decide for yourself, don't do it unless you like it.

Yeah, another thing that some squadrons often do, mine especially, is search and rescue. You can be on an Urban Direction Finding team, or operate radios for a search and rescue missions, and I believe you can do flight line marshalling, if it is necessary. Like ds said, you have to decide for yourself. I really enjoy it, but at first it was hard because there were really young kids above me in the chain of command, but it didn't take long to get over that. Definitely at least visit, most squadrons like you to visit at least three times before joining, so you should be able to get a pretty good idea.

Sorry, I don't know anything about CAP, so I don't mean to change the subject, but back to kas... Your son is a little young for us to project what his chances of getting an appointment are, but so far he looks great! Have him get involved in more leadership positions, because that's definitely something that he will be asked about. Other than that, keeping your eyes on the goal is the best way to get into USAFA! It's awesome that he's excited, because that will inspire him to achieve and excel all throughout high school so that he can have a competitive record when it comes time to apply. Summer seminar is still a couple of years away for him, but I certainly recommend that he apply and go! It's a great experience and I'm sure will really enforce his desire to come to the Academy.
