Another 'what is my chance' thread..

hello folks
I'm interested in applying ED to college of engineering (looking into CIS)
if you guys can provide some feedback on my stats and my chances that would be greatly appreciated

Scores (only the best ones)
SAT I - 2020, 610R 750M 660W 10 Essay - retaking, aiming for 2100
SAT II - Physics 710, Math Level 2 780

AP - Physics C E&M 5, Physics C Mech 5, calculus AB 5, Macroeconomics 5, English comp 3, Government US 3, Physics B 4
GPA: 4.28 UW, more than likely top 10%

Courseload
Grade 9 - Reg Bio, Reg Eng, Reg Hist, Honors Alg 2, Intro to BASIC programming class, orchestra (straight As), chem over summer
Grade 10 - Honors Eng, Honors Hist, Honors Analysis (PreCalc), intro to comp science, AP Physics, orchestra (As and Bs)
Grade 11 - AP Eng Comp, AP Econ/Gov, AP Calc, AP Physics II (best class ever), orchestra (As and Bs)
Grade 12 - trying to squeeze in AP Chem, AP Calc II, AP Eng Lit, AP CompSci, AP Psych, AP Stats (current schedule is not like this but I'm going into guidance to change)

Extracurriculars
1 Volunteer at local hospital - 249 hours
2 orchestra
3 school newspaper (wrote an article and provided several pictures)
4 Key Club
5 Academic League
6 Robotics club
7 NHS member
8 NJIT STEP, science enrichment program, taking computer classes
9 Helping out other people with computer problems, usually neighbors and people at my church

I have a strong interest in CIS and IT. i have been fiddling around with windows servers and other programs for quite awhile. i have several computers in my house and try to learn various aspects of networking, OS, and all that good stuff. Tried to tinker around with ISA server but didn't work out :P
One of the things i want to do is provide consulting for other people's computing needs. Anything from big enterprise level to the typical small business.

i would appreciate some feedback, i'm going to visit cornell next week. Love to get in this school.

Thanks,
nervous senior

You're going to visit during orientation week? Wow...I dunno the plan in that, it's just gonn abe a bunch of freshman exploring campus with no actual classes going on yet. You might want to wait one more week.

You're chances are good, just bump up your SATs to above 2100. And write great essays and get good teacher recs, like just everyone else. Especially since you are applying ED for engineering, you should have a shot at getting in.

Really? I was planning on visiting Cornell first and then check out Carnegie Mellon (Carnegie Mellon is not doing campus tours last week of August)

Yea I'm trying really hard to push up the SATs ... I'm getting like 650R 760M 670W ... only reading improved only by a little

Well, classes at Cornell don't start until the 24th I think, so if you're coming after that you should be able to sit in on some classes. Some other classes start the 28th so I'm not sure what you're looking for. But if you don't care about classes then it really doesn't matter when you come. Just be warned, it's gonna be orientation and it might be pretty hectic.

cool thanks

ooo i think i screwed up on the gpa

its 4.28 out of 5 ... is that weighted or unweighted? i can never distinguish the two

Unweighted would be out of 4.0

Hmm can't edit my post either =/

forgot to mention i took spanish for 3 years as well...

eek...i'm visiting next week as well- is orientation week not the best week to visit?

I think he means that it will be kinda hectic
hopefully it won't be too bad
