I was talking to someone today about how much I love one of my teachers and how I hope Ill stay in contact with him even after high school. She said I "should make him my mentor." I nodded and acted like I knew what she was talking about but what exactly is a mentor? Thanks! I realize this is probably in the wrong forum but I couldn't really decide a right one.

men·tor [men-tawr, -ter] –noun
- a wise and trusted counselor or teacher.
- an influential senior sponsor or supporter.

Alright, so I kind of figured that was what it was. But what exactly do they do? Do I have to ask them to be my mentor? I’m just confused about this whole concept. Thank you though.

It is probably a little unusual to seek a HS teacher to be your mentor for after HS. A mentor is someone higher up an organization than you who is willing to show you the ropes and help guide you. Once you are in college you would be better served to seek advising within the college.

Okay thanks I was a little confused when talking to this girl because I had no idea what she was talking about. Now I know that she didn’t know what she was talking about either… How would you recommend staying in touch with my teacher though? Through email? Would it be weird if I visited him once in a while when I came back home for breaks from college?
