I have a weighted GPA of 4.43 (5.0 scale) and unweighted of 3.8 since I take a bunch of honors classes. I still have another semester to get my gpa up so we'll see. I am in math team, science olympiad, poetry club, anime club, book club, i play the violin, Peer Leadership and I volunteer at a elderly residence where I read to the residents and i host game night. I did volunteer at my local hospital for a few months. I swim and play tennis often, but not at my school. I am in a organization me and my classmates started that deals with informing others about humanitarian causes. I write poetry and stories that I have summited into my school's magazine. I am applying to be a photographer for my yearbook. I so far have a ACT score of a 28 when i superscore but I hope to improve that (ive only taken it twice). 29 english, 30 math, 26 reading, and 27 science. 9 on the writing portion. I took three AP classes last semester but I take 2 now and i honors class. I plan to take AP Pychology, AP Lit, AP Calculus, and Spanish honors, and physics regular. I am planning on taking volunteering in the cancer registry department at the hospital I was born at. Do

You have more than enough extra curriculum activities, it is better if you have one or two very shining items. For example, violin or viola, or flute, state level, or east coast tournament level. Olympia Math or chemistry team, silver medal or bronze medal. Concentrate on one or two activities, and show what your contribution and achievement in these things.

To have a chance, your application would need to stand out in some way. Your ACT score is low; the middle 50% range is 31-34. You have many EC’s - but quality counts much more than quantity. I wouldn’t get your hopes up for UChicago.

take sat also, you only need to show one, sat or act. If your SAT scores are better use them. Agree that your ACT is low.

how do i concentrate on specific ECs if I enjoy them all? How do I make myself more noticeable to the admissions people?

your weighted GPA of 4.3 out of a 5.0 scale is pretty low for a school of U Chicago’s caliber regardless of how many APs and Honors you have taken. If the unweighted GPA also is based on the 5.0 scale, this is actually below B average, isn’t it?

Combine this with your low ACT: it puts in a very disadvantageous position.

I agree with others that your EC profile of quantity over quality is not the best for competing for admission in any top college. You will have to somehow find a way to pick a couple of ECs and build a story line about your passion.

However, the real question you need to ask yourself is this: why do you want to attend U Chicago given that it appears that you enjoy ALL of your numerous EC activities so much, which undoubtedly chews up a lot of time? U Chicago is still primarily an academic institution with a heavy emphasis on academic and intellectual rigor. Your peers will come with much more academic heft and will spend a lot more time than you may be willing to allocate for their academic pursuit. How do you intend to stay afloat in that environment. Obviously, you want to succeed, not barely catching up with your peers.

I am sorry to be discouraging, but you need to think about what it is you really want out of your college experience.

You’ve asked this same question on over 3 threads. Stop spamming the forums.

well excuse me but no one has been answering me and its not spamming if all i am looking for is an answer and to answer your statements to why i want to go to UChicago, it is because of what they encourage there. At this school everyone encourages intellectualism and creativity. Nothing there is strange, everyone is so open and unique. I wan’t really interested in u chicago until a few months ago, in which I have improved my grades a ton and getting s 4.82 GPA. I think the UChicago is perfect for my college experience. I don’t choose a college for its prestige, but for the values they encourage and I feel UChciago is perfect for me. And didn’t I say I was retaking the ACT. Don’t my EC actually show that I have many interests because last time I checked that wasn’t a bad thing?

In general, top schools are not looking for students with participation in 1000 things - at all of which the students had some level of achievements but not AMAZING achievements.

It’s much better to have a few ECs where you REALLY excelled and achieved outstanding results than many many ECs where you were just members.

For instance, it is very wonderful if you were a student government president and made an impact on your school - just one EC. If you participated in 20 organizations in which you were just members or some meaningless officer holders like secretary (we all know, that’s just a name tag). It’s much better to win in a state/national level competition in ONE musical instruments, than to play 20 different instruments in a school band. It’s much better to be a captain of a winning football team, than to be a member of 20 sports teams in an athletic club.

The problem with all of your “interests” where you achieved mid level positions is that it makes you a dabbler, an amateur, rather than someone with a passion to achieve and excel.
