Hi, I am internaltional student too. Now I am junior High school doing IB program.
I have taken SAT this january and scores came :

740 math
610 CR
630 writing

I must admit they are pretty bad if I want to go to top schools. But I am not used to SAT-type of tests. I want to improve the scores in june or in fall of 2008 (hope to reach about 2200).

I am now planning to visit schools in US (spring break). And I want to see Columbia University, some other Ivy Leagues and some schools like U of Rochester in NY or Union University and some LAC.

Do you think I might look stupid when I'll mention my SAT scores?

Which schools should I visit in NY and MA according to my scores as a junior?

1980 is a decent score for a junior especially when you plan to retake.

are you stupid? -no, then why would you look so?

don’t visit schools according to your scores- would you visit only harvard princeton and yale if you got 2400 and u mass if u got 1500?- thats ridiculous!

check out schools on the net and visit the ones you like and want to know more about and which you feel will suit your interest.

thank you, for answer. I got a bit nervous when reading all those post that most of internationals applying for financial aid to ivy league have 2200 and higher. And they still are not sure if they will get into a college.

You really pass a lot of optimism to me:) thanks

I was planning to visit Columbia, as from websites it really impresses and looks even better than Princeton. I will be seeing also Princeton, Harvard, Yale, and LAC also like Brandeis.

but as I am Asian, Vietnamese, living in Poland, it is not so easy to visit colleges often. I want to see schools were my chances are high.

For instance if I was not able to get into a top school (God forbid) than I want to see the colleges which would accept me. Just to make them remember me when I will be applying next year.

well i couldn’t visit ne schools- but i don’t really think that college people(esp at the larger and famous univ) really remember that ’ oh this applicant visited ’
but yes- some do- like brandeis does care if you visit or not.smaller lac’s also care a lot.

but noone can really tell you whats good for you-
like you like columbia ‘even more then princeton’ - i don’t - i like yale more then any other ivy.

so its pretty personal thing- i guess you should explore colleges by your major and location priorities.

Yeah u r right its personal. Thank you once again

Like Shreya said, its a matter of personal preference. Shortlist a few colleges that suit you and your interests. Worry about SAT scores later, for one, I really dont think they are going to ask your SAT score to judge your potential as an applicant when you’re visiting the school. And you’re only a junior, plenty of time to improve
So, chill! And all the best!!

And just keep this important fact in mind - it’s the smaller schools which will care more about your visit than the big guns (ie. Ivies).
