Answering ALL Questions Related to Rutgers Pharmacy

@pokeabubble

If you have a extremely high class rank, or your writing score is really low maybe.

IIRC the average math+reading scores are 1400. you’ll want at least 1300 in math+reading.

I doubt GPA is a big factor in admissions; I got in with a low GPA (honors/AP classes though) but a good SAT score.

My info may be dated though because I applied in '08

Which programs at Rutgers do you need a letter of recommendation, if any? For the general application, you don’t, but I’m not sure about everything else, especially pharmacy.

I thought Rutgers doesn’t want letters of recommendations at all…

It doesn’t for general admissions, but I just wanted to make sure it doesn’t need it for any accelerated/joint degree programs.

As a transfer, do you have to take the PCAT to get into the Pharmacy school? The problem is I got placed into Intermediate Algebra, so I’m going to be delayed taking my pre-pharm courses. Does it look good to take the PCAT, achieve a high score and then send it to the Pharmacy school for consideration? I don’t know if accepted transfers students even took the PCAT when applying.

Second, they do not offer spring admission, right? I was thinking about applying to the school in the fall of my junior year, and then going there if they accepted applications in the spring. That way I’ll only be a semester or so behind.

I read in this thread that Rutgers Pharmacy students do not have a special housing place. I was wondering if it was possible to have a roommate that is also in the pharmacy program? I mean, can that be specified on the application? Thanks!

I’m currently trying to decide between Rutgers Pharm and another school. To current students: do you like the campus and campus environment at Rutgers?

Also, what is the outlook for pharmacy employment in six years? I’m really nervous about the fact that the industry is becoming saturated.

i just went to a college fair for my high school and the reps for rutgers and st. john’s told me that the pharmaceutical industry is a growing field
rutgers has a really good reputation, apparently they have a very high license passing rate and most of their students find jobs before they even graduate.

@collegehelp1 I don’t think you could but places like Davidson, BEST, and the Quads/Towers have a bunch of pharmacy students. Most likely you will live somewhere like that and you will find other pharmacy students to work with. I suggest posting about it on your class’s facebook group and then request something together. A lot of kids did that.

@overbrook99 Yeah the outlook isn’t that great in all fields of pharmacy, esp. industry. :frowning: In our pharm convocations class the professor has been warning us about it and even printed out an article about pharmacist saturation to the class. It’s definitely more competitive but I talked to some students in their last years last summer who mostly had found jobs.

Thanks for the answer. Also, does anyone recommend a specific laptop for entering the pharmacy program at Rutgers?

How difficult do you think it will be to find a job in 6 years?

Even though pharmacy is becoming saturated, will graduating from Ernest Mario make a difference?

A lot of confusion here on this board - there is a big distinction between “industry” (eg. the pharmaceutical industry) and what some of you are referring to, which is retail pharmacy. Both are doing bad, so I guess it doesn’t matter but make sure you are clear on what you are talking about.

The pharmaceutical industry is #2 in layoffs (right after government) and is not doing well.
Retail isn’t doing so hot either for other reasons - new pharm schools, economy, pricing pressures, etc.

@graduating from rutgers: it doesn’t help that much but Rutgers is one of the rare schools that exposes you to a lot of different avenues of pharmacy. You’ll be hard pressed to find another school on the east coast that sends their students to such a diverse range of fields

@finding a job in 6 yrs: impossible to tell and any answer someone will give you is going to be misinformed. there are too many factors in healthcare at play right now.

Hi, I was waitlisted for the Rutgers Pharmacy and i was wondering if you could possibly answer some questions:

1) When do they usually notify those on the waiting list if they are accepted or rejected? I understand that we will be notified after May 1st but i was wondering around what time would i receive a reply? (like mid May, end of May, etc.)

2) What are my chances of being accepted into the pharmacy program off the waiting list and what percentage usually is accepted off of the waiting list?

My Stats(if more info is needed just let me know):
SAT:2010 CR:630 M:690 W:690
Rank: 18/486
GPA: 4.528 W
EC: National Honor Society, MuAlphaTheta, Spanish Honor Society, Co-founder and President of Allies with Africa, JSA, Volunteered at local hospital for 3 summers.

3) Do you know any current pharmacy students that have been accepted off the waiting list?

I read in a past post in this thread that there are some textbooks that professors will tell you to get but aren’t really necessary. If you remember, could you list the textbooks (titles would be appreciated) that were really helpful for you for your PP1 courses?

Thanks!

Can you apply to other rutgers college and pharm? For example, I know pharm is competitive so can I apply there as one of my reach and have rutgers as safety?

How are the financial aids at Rutgers?

Thanks in advance:)

if you mean the schools within rutgers, then yes. When i applied it was 3, which you choose what schools within rutgers you want to apply to. If you don’t get in pharmacy but you get in SAS then are accepted.

Does anyone have stats on the percentage of 0-6 freshmen who complete the program?

Why is it that they allow people with a GPA as low as 2.8 to stay in the program while to transfer in, you have to have a GPA of 3.5. Even some people with 4.0 science GPAs sometimes don’t get in. How do you guys feel about this?
