Hello! I am applying for transfer for Fall 2013 as a junior and need some advice.

Current Stats:
Centre College (Top 50 Liberal Arts school in KY)
White male, resident of AL --- applying for need-based aid
GPA: 3.82 ... 3.97 non-math gpa (transferring to get into a better math program)
ECs:
-Did summer research (2012) with top researchers in healthcare management--- will likely be getting a special author's note in a publication
-Resident Assistant (very few people selected at my school as a sophomore)
-employed by the college as a valet parking attendant for shows and concerts (likely to become assistant director of valet in the spring)
-Executive committee member of the Student Activities Council (Activities chairperson)
-Member of the fraternity with the highest GPA on campus (Scholarship Chairman)
-Dean's list for all terms
-Various Community service activities

Recs: one "stellar", one "glowing"--- both from econ profs
Essays: provide specific reasons why I want to transfer (greater interconnectivity between econ and math departments, more urban atmosphere for greater community service opportunities)... well-written

Beta Theta Pi Men of Principle Scholarship- finalist

Major: Econ/Math double
Relevant coursework: Intermediate Micro, Intermediate Macro, Experimental Economics, Development Economics, Calc I-III, Linear Algebra, Intro to Statistics, Diff EQ

HS:
Competitive private school
GPA: 3.67 (4.3 W), 11/160----------- upward trend in senior year uw 3.85
ACT: 34 SAT: 2110 PSAT: 214

National Merit Finalist

What are my chances of getting into...? --- in order of interest

Rice (like their mathematical economics analysis major)
Davidson
Columbia
Emory
WUSTL

It’s a problem that you want to transfer to a better math program while having lower math grades relative to your other ones. However, you appear to be a strong candidate. I think that you have a decent chance at transferring to Rice and Emory. Columbia likely won’t happen (5% transfer rate).

Thanks for the input! I’m hoping that my grades (10 As, 1 A-) in other areas will show that my lower math grades (B+,B+,A,B) are not due to lack of capability, but more due to a mismatch in teaching/learning personalities. This is why I am addressing the desire to join a math program that is more connected to that school’s econ program.

Any thoughts on Davidson?

Buuuuump :)

One last bump…
