Answers to some FAQ about acceptances, waves, statuses, etc...

I keep seeing new threads popping up from people asking when the next wave will be, how many more waves there will be, what are the enrollment deposit links, etc. I thought I would save everyone some time by posting the answers to your questions. :)

What does my status mean?
Nobody actually knows what any of the statuses mean and everything here is pure speculation. With that said, there are some patterns that everyone is pretty sure of...

If I got a DHL email from USC will I be getting an acceptance package?
Yes. Rejections are sent via snail mail, even for Internationals.

My status changed from "forwarded" to "being reviewed." Am I in?
Right now everyone who has been accepted has had the "forwarded" status followed by the "being reviewed" status. However, this is purely speculation and there have been some people whose statuses only changed to "being reviewed" after they got their packages. Bottom line, just wait for the package.

My status is still "fall grades." I'm rejected, aren't I?
Be patient. After combing through last year's threads it seems like everyone with "fall grades" will be bumped up to "forwarded" or "being reviewed" or something soon. Hang tight!

I live 5 minutes away from USC and I still haven't gotten an acceptance package even though other people have... am I rejected?
Unless it is March 31st, don't worry. USC will continue sending acceptances until the end of March. Rejections will not be sent until AFTER acceptances. Typically, rejections come the first week of April along with offers for spring admission.

I was not part of the first wave of non-presidential/trustee/dean's scholarships. Will there be more waves or am I rejected?
Unless it is March 31st, don't worry. There will be waves of acceptances until April. They typically occur the Friday of every week, but I have no idea if this will change at all. Bottom line: acceptances will keep trickling out until April.

Are you sure?
Yes. Unless it is the first week of April and you still have not received a letter, you don't have to worry. :)

What is the "back door method" of checking your acceptance?
1) Open USConnect in Internet Explorer. Not Firefox, Internet Explorer. Or whatever you use normally to view USConnect. I find that IE is the most reliable for this job. If you use Firefox you can go to the "admitted applicants" page from the dropdown menu and log in manually by clicking the "enrollment deposit" box. But that's the long way. If you try copy and pasting the URL into Firefox, you'll just get a blank page.
2) Log in to USConnect. You may want to check the Admission tab first to see if you've gotten the boxes on your portal yet. If not, then move onto step 3.
3) Without closing the page where you just logged in, copy and paste the link (<a href="https://usconnect.usc.edu:447/Render/ServiceRender/AdmUGCertification.aspx%5B/url%5D">https://usconnect.usc.edu:447/Render/ServiceRender/AdmUGCertification.aspx</a>) into the same page's URL box. Go to this new URL. It's important that you don't close the page where you initially logged in, otherwise it will log you out and you'll get a blank page.
4) A white page will come up with the "enrollment deposit" box in the top left corner. Click the box.
5) It will either say "user is unauthorized" or it will have a form pre-filled with your name, address, etc. You want the latter.
6) Sometimes this method doesn't work even if you have been accepted. It takes up to 7 days for the link to work so even if it doesn't let you access it, you still may have been accepted.

The "enrollment deposit" and "RSVP for student events" boxes appeared in my USConnect portal... am I in?
Most likely.

Please chance me!
If your GPA is above 3.7 and your SAT is above 2000, then you have a decent chance. That's all anyone can really tell you.

If I got rejected by (F)UCLA, will I be rejected by USC as well?
Not necessarily! UCLA is a public university whereas USC is private. That means that UCLA is obligated to accept California students first, especially the ones with the highest stats. USC uses a holistic process for admission, meaning that they will look at the applicant as a whole (essays, ECs, quirks, etc). They also accept more out-of-state students.

My acceptance package did not include any financial aid information... will I receive financial aid?
Accepted students will be notified of their financial aid packages in early April.

I forgot to submit my FAFSA/tax return/miscellaneous financial aid document... will I receive financial aid?
You may get your package later than everyone else but it doesn't hurt to try. Submit it AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and refer to alamemom's Financial Aid FAQ thread for further guidance:

Who are you and why should I trust you?
I'm a prospective undergrad SCA applicant and I've spent about a year on this forum researching... you don't really have to trust me but I promise I won't lie to you. :)

dream, you are officially my favorite applicant. Thanks! :)

Lol, I trust you…even though I’m a current student at 'SC

See how quickly a sensible thread like this falls while they ask the very questions you have answered??? Welcome to my world…

Dream, you have done a great job of clearly answering these questions.
I hope everything works out for you!

I think we should just copy and paste the link into every thread that asks a question mentioned in this thread.

^ YES! I elect you, AppleWater!

What!? Why?
-___-
Okay fine. :P

Thank you so much.

^^ Because, as a current USC student, your words carry more weight than mine ;)

Speak up, Mike! It will help to keep this thread where it will be noticed!

Read the first post…not the rest! :P

Appreciate it dream, good luck, heres hoping that we both get in!

This is wonderful, thanks dreamupsided0wn!

Okay. So, did Dream’s method help anyone find out they are admitted?

The “back door” method is pretty unreliable, as it sometimes takes a week for the link to work… overall, I wouldn’t put too much weight on it. There have been applicants who have gotten their packages before the link worked for them. Also, oxolojo mentioned in another thread that the link started redirecting her to her application status page… so maybe USC figured it out and it no longer works. No one knows. :P

But, yes, a lot of people used the link to figure out they got in before they got the official package.

thank you for spending the time to do this. it is amazing, accurate and well appreciated.

The “backdoor method” actually worked for me on Safari 4 and an older version of Firefox (on an older mac w/out Leopard). On the newest version of Firefox (w/Leopard OS), the pull down menu dreamupsidedown mentioned seemed to be the only way.

I have Safari and for the longest time it wasn’t working, but then I realized that that is because Safari doesn’t tell you if popup blocker is on. So after you log in press control command K and pop up blocker will be turned off and it will work

so I emailed USC admissions around March 9th asking about the “forwarded” status/when I will receive my admission decision and they told me my file appears to be complete. what does that mean?
