I am looking to transfer and I wanted to know if Emory has a good anthropology program? Sociology, history or international relations are my back-up or possible second major to double major. UGA, U of Florida and Indiana are also on my list. To be honest, UGA is my best bet financially, but Emory might give a good financial package, so is it worth it? If I was drowning in money UofMich would be my choice, but I am not, so U of Florida and Indiana might be good depending on financial aid and yes I am aware that OOS don't get the best packages b/c money goes to in-state students. Overall, I am a very candidate as a transfer student, but would like an insider's pov.

I wouldn’t go if you have cheaper options. There are some outstanding professors in the department, though.

Yes, I know that, but is it worth applying and see if I get a good financial aid package? If the program is not that great then I won’t apply and go to UGA or another school.

I don’t really know much about it to be honest. I would look around the department website here: [Emory University | Department of Anthropology](<a href=“Error 404 | Emory University | Atlanta GA”>http://www.anthropology.emory.edu/). Look at the faculty and course offerings and compare them to other schools. The important thing is to find a department that offers the kind of learning environment that suits you specifically.

All I know is that it is a popular major and that my friends really enjoy what they get from it, especially many of the upperlevel coursework. Seems pretty good to me. Interesting ideas come from experiences and coursework in the dept. The sustainable food fair came about due to ideas stemming from the anthro. dept. One student came up with the idea of the Green Bean Coffee cart (all organic offerings) based upon ideas from the “fast food, slow food” course.

It’s an excellent department both for biological and cultural. Easily one of the best Emory. Professors are generally very good.
