Anti-Black Sentiment at UCLA?

I visited UCLA a few months ago and really fell in love with the campus. However, I have also heard about a lot of anti-black sentiment among the student body and faculty. I was wondering if anyone on here can confirm this? And obviously there's going to be anti-black bigotry everywhere, I'm just wondering if it's worse than normal at UCLA? I've attended classist and racist schools in the past, and this info probably won't stop me from applying, but I'd at least like to know about this type of stuff beforehand. Thanks in advance and please don't turn this thread into something nasty. I'm looking for rational answers, not posts telling me that color doesn't matter and blah blah blah.

You must have this campus confused with sister school UC Irvine. Um no, although there’s not a very large black community at UCLA per se, I wouldn’t say there’s “anti-black bigotry” everywhere. I find that UCLA is a very accepting community. Sure, UCLA has had its share of racist scandals in the past (the most recent one involving faculty or something) but it’s definitely not something widespread or encouraged.

If you can get in, and pay less than you would pay for an equally ranked private, I’d say don’t worry about it ! Go! It’s a big place, and you will find your peeps.

@oceanpartier yeah I’ve heard it’s pretty bad at UC Irvine
thanks for replying!

@Shrinkrap thanks! that’s pretty much what i was thinking, i just wanted to hear some other opinions :D

Never heard, or at least paid attention to, this sort of thing throughout my 4 years here.

why so many anti- UCI rants?

If you can get accepted into UCLA, then go.

UCLA’s all about diversity. As different as every student on campus was from each other, nearly every person I interacted with was impressive, intelligent, hard working, and seemed to have a bright future. The blacks students I met on campus were no different in this regard, and I never saw any black sentiment from anyone when I was a student.

No. Absolutely not.

We’ve been very proud of our diversity. Not so proud when then Governor Reagan fired Angela Davis – not for being black, but for being a member of the communist party.

We have a good sized African American faculty these days, and while I wouldn’t say our diversity mirrors the make up of the population in Los Angeles, which changes from decade to decade, never have I seen anti-black sentiment.

You will LOVE it here!
