So I've seen this in the Harvard and Columbia threads and thought it was really great so I decided to bring it to a more general forum...

Instead of being a brag thread and saying your hooks, tell what you think is the weak spot of your application. Sounds weird, but reading people's responses will really calm you that not everyone is 4.0/2400 like it seems on here.

My weak spot is rank--- 40/600. Still top 10%, but the number 40 just doesn't look too great.

I'm 95/500 something
pain in the a$$ because most of the top kids have never taken an advanced course in their life and those who have, and who's gpa's have slipped the tiniest bit only get a .002 rating. Grumble grumble:[

Pfah! These aren't anti-hooks...anti-hooks would be something like:
1. Convicted felon...especially if actually in prison.
2. Only EC is Nazi Youth or KKK.

If you watched the Hawaii/Boise State football game last week you will know that being convicted of a crime and committed to a juvenile correctional facility is not an anti-hook if you are a star athlete. One of Hawaii's football players was sent to a juvenile correctional facility while in high school and, hoping to be recruited by Hawaii, sent in a game tape to Hawaii from a football scrimmage at the facility and is now one of the stars of Hawaii's football team.

I have the same issue salpert. All the students in my school are hardcore A hunters. But I think my rank is fine. 10/507 and I have a 4.68 GPA. My real issue is my SAT score. I'm also applying to Stanford, kcb452. I have an 1850, though. Not good at all. That's the one thing that will kill me.

Heh, found out today they changed ranking around a bit and I'm now 35/600, a little better :) My GPA is a 3.86 UW but its weighted rankings, and mine is 4.54. I'm not too stressed about it since my GPA is obviously fine, itd just be nice if my ranking was higher. Oh wellz.

Unweighted I think I have around a 4.0 or so. I'm not sure since we don't do unweighted, but that's what my counselor put down. My school won't re-rank until the semester ends. =/ And then you get a new rank when the school year's over.

I only took one AP class because of my academic position Freshman year.

My UW GPA is a good 3.8 but that is on my school's "partial credit scale" where a B- is a 3.0, a B+ is 3.67 and an A is 4.0. I think this gives a better representation of a student's work, but it will be recalculated, and thus bring down the GPA because I have a lot of B+ grades.

You only took one AP class? Ah, I can see why your unweighted is a 3.8 then. Most people with super high unweighted GPAs have them because they took a lot of AP. I took 9 AP and 12 Pre-AP. I only have a few Bs and they're all in math. Otherwise, I have As for the year in all my classes.

My course selection (and, indirectly, my GPA when considered with my course selection). We only offer four APs at my school: APUSH, Euro History, Comp Science and Calc. Euro History is taught by the most challenging teacher at my school, and is a very hard class to get accepted into. Comp Science is a small class of all boys who are mostly headed to top colleges for the sciences. I'm not a science or maths person, so no Calc. I took APUSH, but I only have that one AP.

Also, we only offer Honours Math (all grades) and English (senior year only). Math is my worst subject. That leaves me with one one honours class.
