bad senior grades
iffy teacher recs

What's your GPA and rank Fred? I'm applying to! Don't worry, not everyone applying is a super genius. ^_^''

Well, I started Freshman year straight out of remedial classes my parents forced me into starting 5th grade. Since then, I have taken a college course at Florida Atlantic University over the summer and am taking an AP senior year. Though I am not applying Ivy League, hopefully admissions will understand that you can't just skip from remedial to AP in three years. All my other classes though this year are honors, and I go to a rigorous school now that always uses college texts for the honors classes as well. They have some strange standard that people who get an A in their honors classes should be capable of getting a 3 or possibly 4 on the AP exam. As you can imagine, the actual AP classes are a nightmare, and everyone is expected to get a 5.

i have fairly weak EC's, especially for applying to Stanford :( :(

^actually, you can. I started freshman year in Algebra I (I'd already taken Algebra in 8th grade) and moved to AP Calc AB by junior year. As long as you are really annoyed at the system for putting you in remedial classes, I find that you can pull yourself out of them eventually.

And why wouldn't AP teachers expect their students to get at least a 4 on their test? If you're in the AP class, you should be able to do the work.

I have a weak rank because I had to take regular, nonweighted core classes in freshman year while many others took honors. Our rank is weighted. 0.3 points is the difference between me (46/490) and my friend (17/490).

you can't always get into the AP classes if you weren't in advanced classes as a freshman, many schools have limited AP/Honors classes, not enough seats for the qualified kids

Happened to my D- is ace-ing her History Class and will take the AP Test...but you had to be in the honors class the year before to get first dibs on the AP classes, and there is only so much room

kind of sad and frustrating how your HS stats for colleges can be reflective of what kind of student you were, where you went to school, what kind of test taker, etc back in 7th and 8th grade- because that can determine your honors classes as a freshman, and so on

I sucked my first semester freshman year! 2 B's in history and english first semester. ouch... pulled my rank down a lot. I could have gotten top 5 students =[

My school doesn't weight grades, so there are 7 kids with the same rank as me (1/330)- which is a shame, because most of them didn't take the hardest courses. My high school is not an academic powerhouse by any means, including very limited AP offerings. My essays were heavy-handed, could have been better.

test scores are the bane of my college admissions process. my score isn't that low, just that...i mean, it doesn't hurt to have it higher, y'know? especially since i'm...AZNNN, the core of the 2300+ club.

Two words... Asian male

I hear it looks bad when more than one person has the same rank.

AHahaha one school in my area had like 30 valedictorians. So much for being #1.

no awards :'-(

I have awards, but nothing national. Just like...local stuff.

No awards here. I don't think...

So awards and SATs will kill me. Greeeat.

haha don't worry. i hAVE ZEROOO AWARDS. just fantastic! my artwork has been featured in a local newspaper but uhh that doesn't exactly count as an award..haha.

Write it down as one anyway.

Actually, I was in Pre-Algebra Freshman year and am taking Honors Calc this year. Also, I didn't say a 3 or 4 was the standard score for AP students. That's the standard for HONORS students! (If they all were to take the AP exam, and some do anyway.)

Honors Calculus? My school only has AP. =/
