Anxiety Pyramid: An online CC reality program

You’re gotten into your safety. Yay!
Then a kid here at CC with the same stats gets into the Reach that turned you down.

You get a merit scholarship from your favorite college of $10,000 a year. Yay!
The next person who posts gets $20,000 annually. Plus a summer research grant.

You’re into the highly-ranked Honors program. Yay!
Followed by a post from a kid who got a personal phone call from the dean of the honors college.

You’re deferred and not rejected by an Ivy. Yay!
Followed by the post that asks how to decide between the 3 colleges courting them.

You’re feeling pretty confident that March 30 holds good news for you. Yay!
Then you stumble into the online party of kids with their likely letters already in place.

You’re pretty happy about your likely letter on the way. Yay!
Except then a kid gets called before the letter arrives because the admissions office can’t wait to share the good news.

Your likely letter is in hand! Yay!
And then you read of the girl who’s gotten into Harvard but is being heavily courted by Yale to reconsider…

And so it goes…the life of a kid at college confidential….

@SouthernHope You just summed up the risky aspect of hanging out on this website. There is a wealth of really helpful information on CC, but there is also this hyper competitive aspect of chance threads, comparing stats, and comparing outcomes that can be very anxiety provoking and defeating to some going through the admissions process. The good thing is there are lots of adults who post here who are constantly trying to help with reality.

Ha! That is me…i am pretty happy with my schools but one of my best friends just won the Morehead Caine scholarship over the weekend…and he also just received an early admission to Duke…so my wins don’t seem so shiny. Though I am happy for him!

Personally, I’ve found this forum to be an invaluable resource for the college application process as well as standardized test prep. Furthermore, I’ve always felt there to be some level of camaraderie here, as nearly everyone who uses this forum has pushed themselves to their limits and we’re all hoping to achieve the same goals (be it test scores or admissions). Just don’t constantly compare yourself to others and be happy with your own accomplishments, knowing that if you’re here, odds are you’ve already done everything you can to succeed. Just steer clear of the chances forum.
