I am surprised they don’t all want video prescreens, it is very, very difficult (not impossible, but difficult) to edit the soundtrack on a recording and have it synch with the video and not have it observed. The reality is, of course, that you can’t eliminate all cheating, and I am sure there are cottage industries in some countries/places within countries where for a (substantial) fee they will create the perfect pre screen for a candidate…but in the end, the person will be found out if they audition live. One program I know of used to allow video audition tapes for overseas applicants, they switched to doing regional auditions because they ended up with more than a few students who they realized were nowhere near the level portrayed on the video audition.
We were intrigued that S’ audition to William Paterson is audio MP3 only. We made 3 MP3 files and uploaded to the school’s site. There will be no further auditioning there. For the record, his audio was not enhanced or re-processed in any way.
