Anxious and confused...

I'm currently a senior in high school and recently, have heard back from two universities in particular: Northwestern University and Carnegie Mellon University. To my surprise, I was waitlisted at both of those universities. I understand why I was waitlisted at Northwestern; I wrote a horrible essay at the last minute that might have come off as apathetic and unenthusiastic about the school. However, I believe I wrote a fairly decent essay for Carnegie Mellon University yet I was waitlisted too. I don't want to sound like a pretentious egoist but I was adamant that I would be accepted to Carnegie Mellon for sure, especially the less-competitive arts and sciences college. To give you an idea of my stats here is a copy and pasted version of my "Chance Me" thread.

Are universities simply getting more competitive each year or is there a valid reason as to why I was waitlisted? I thank you all in advance for your valuable inputs for this has been on my mind lately.

No way to know - nothing ‘bad’ leaps out from your stats except the weak essay for NW. It may simply be that you somehow conveyed a lack of serious interest and they have waitlisted you to see if you are still interested (and they still have space) once they how things shake out in RD.

Search for threads on what to do when waitlisted, and get on with it. I assume you have other schools you are waiting to hear from - possibly schools you are more interested in - so this isn’t a big deal.

Yes. But from my current results, the 29th of March isn’t looking so good…D:
