Anyone out there who feels my pain in waiting for scholarship decisions?

I’m still waiting for word on scholarships as well, and I’m feeling sort of uneasy because I don’t know if they have all been given out already…

I feel your pain tebowforheisman. It feels like it’s taking forever. Any estimations for when they’ll come out?

In 2008 my D’s Trustee letter was dated March 21, so she received it in the mail a day or two after that (we are in So Cal). It was in a normal sized envelope. (she screamed on the street when she read it right there at the mailbox, scaring the neighbours)

Could be any day now if they are sending these around the same time this year.

I believe everyone is notified one way or another.

Good luck!!!

Thanks, Sequoia. I was expecting around April so that is actually a very pleasant surprise! Do you remember if you were able to check online to see if she received the scholarship first?

^ No it wasn’t online.

The letter also included a “USC Scholarship Acknowledgment” form, where you accept or decline it. By accepting, you mark a box saying that you will enroll at USC.
I still have a copy of that and see that she signed it in mid April, so it doesn’t have to be sent in immediately in case you are considering other universities.

(The TO acceptance letter comes in April)

Thank you very much for your help. Now I just have to harass my mailman for a couple of days!

I am too
GOODLUCK EVERYONE! I hope everyone gets what they wanted and more! Maybe we will all be friends (unknowingly) at USC! Haha, that would be hilarious.

You’re welcome. It’s quite possible they went out today, the 22nd.
Very best of luck!

Are you guys talking only about the National Merit finalists? or in general all the other scholarships?

Poncem:

The scholarships they refer to are the Trustee and Presidential. Some students may also be NMF and will receive the 1/2 tuition automatically- if the student has been admitted to USC. If the student is not a NMF, then they will wait to find out about the Presidential 1/2 tuition, or the Trustee- full tuition. And apparently, in a few cases as noted in past years, a Presidential scholarship candidate may also be bumped up to receive the Trustee.

Whoa that would be exciting if the scholarship letters came sooner than expected. At the Explore USC session Mr. Brunold seemed pretty definitive that we would get them by April 1st (I believe he said the week before April 1st most likely). Maybe we will get them this week?

Good luck to everyone! This is the last hurdle standing in the way of me attending USC.

^ This IS the week before April 1st, which is next Thursday. Maybe he is saying everyone will hear by the 1st, meaning those who live where mail arrives a lot later. I bet they go out this week, if they did not today. Very exciting…wish you all good luck!

What an exciting time for everyone!

For the Trustee candidates do you realize that it has been a month since we (students and some parents) went out to LA and spent two beautiful days on the USC campus! We met so many wonderful staff, students and parents. Also- the time my son and I spent having coffee at the Coffee Bean cafe in the courtyard of the new SCA building, sold me on LA and USC- no snow and freezing weather!!!

Seriously guys! Time flies! It feels like it was just yesterday sitting in my host’s dorm room… But yes, I’m pretty sure TO and Scholarship info will be mailed to us AT LEAST before April 1st. I think they want to beat all the other colleges who accepted us :)

Just to pass the time, any scholarship recipients want to gist of what your scholarship letter said? haha Gotta think of something to do before those letters come in…

Oh wow, I was expecting to receive a notification around the end of the week. I think I’ve heard a couple people on this forum say they got theirs around the 26th in previous years. If I get it earlier, it’ll be a pleasant surprise.

So who will definitely attend USC if they get a scholarship?

blissfulting:

We are 99% sure that IF S receives the Trustee, he will attend. If he doesn’t, then we have several options we are considering… but USC is his 1st choice! The problem is, we have another child who is a junior in HS. We need to save $$.

I second what yorkiemom just said. Exactly the same situation with my son as well. Could not believe it is almost one full month after we returned from the Explore USC Day.

We wish everyone good luck!

blissfulting and midwestdad2 ~ Let me chime in and second what you both said - about the school, USC Explore Days, the weather and the money! All applies to my son as well. We are hoping that if he is fortunate enough to be awarded the Presidential, we can somehow come up the rest. USC is his dream schoool. As with most of us, though, it is going to all going to depend on the money.

Despite the outcome, we cannot say enough about all of our interactions with USC. The staff has been wonderful and, for a large university, they certainly have their act together… FAR superior to what we have experienced with some other schools. (I still get misty-eyed thinking about the Trojan Band marching into the auditorium!) My son and I came away from our 2-day visit even more excited about the possibilities - which will make it even more disappointing if the money does not work out.

We have our fingers crossed for all of us. Good luck to everyone. Hopefully, good news will be coming soon.
