Anxiously Awaiting Scholarship Decisions..

Anyone in California receive scholarship notices in the mail today??

As you get your letters, can one of you start a thread to help out next year’s candidates? Many of you wanted to know:

1) What percentage of those interviewed receive the scholarship for which they interviewed?

2) What percentage are **bumped up **from Presidential to Trustee?

3) What percentage are **bumped down **from Trustee to Presidential or Dean’s, and from Presidential to Dean’s?

3) Are there any who are interviewed who did not receive at least a Dean’s?

Whoever gets their notice first, come up with an organized thread to collect the info (I would do it, but I am certain everyone is sick of seeing my screen name by now!).

Good luck!!!

Dear Alamemom:

We are anything BUT sick of you or your screen name! You are a wonderful mom/organizer/advisor/comforter, etc!!! Thank you so much for all of the valuable information, insights and friendly face you give to the USC applicants and parents!!!

BTW- what a great idea you have for the scholarship recipients!

Yorkiemom~ :)

Alamemom, I second yorkiemom’s post. You are incredibly helpful, so don’t even think about holding back.

Awwww! Thanks. I feel strongly that beside its other wonderful qualities, USC has the BEST moms of any university! (And dads, too!)

Now I feel badly about the slightly impatient post I just put up on the “countdown to rejection” thread… but not badly enough to delete it!

For those of you waiting, I’m a Trustee scholarship and last year my decision came online with my Financial Aid award on April 1. They told me it would be late March at my interview but I ended up not finding out til the April 1 date. My actual letter didn’t come until April 10, but I live on the East coast so it took a little longer to reach me.

Swoopes, that’s strange…when was your letter dated? Do you still have it? April 10 seems a bit late to receive it.
My daughter’s was dated the 21st of March…but that was in 2008.

I found the thread from last year (2009) - they were a bit behind the schedule I remember from 2008. The letters started arriving on April 1st http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/666395-scholarship-decisions-9.html</a> But I think everything was a bit behind last year - this year seems to be moving along at the 2008 pace.

Something else I noticed that I missed last year was a post by CollegeFrenzy (post #112) saying that a friend’s child had interviewed for Trustee but was awarded something called a “Director’s Scholarship” for $4,000/year. I had never heard of a “Director’s Scholarship” before. Another category to add to the scholarship results thread.

I haven’t heard of a “Director’s Scholarship” either. A Deans would be worth about $4750 per semester, so the Director’s is less than half that. I wonder if that Director’s was a one year one scholarship or for 4 years. Maybe it’s a grant and maybe affiliated with one of the schools.

I’m hoping that the wonderful USC parents know this answer from previous years… Is it still possible for USC admits who haven’t been admitted in the first wave to still be awarded any of the non-interview scholarships (i.e. Dean’s or Director’s) at this point? S was accepted on 03/14 (second wave) and is fortunate to have been offered admission to a number of tier 1 schools. Most of the acceptances have either come with very generous merit awards or are otherwise affordable (such as in the case or our state flagship university). A couple, including USC, would, as of right now, require we pay the full price of over 50k. Also, based on our experience so far we won’t qualify for anything other than modest unsubsidized loans. So I’m wondering if there’s still a chance for S to be awarded a merit scholarship without having been selected to interview for the big ones. If it really came down to paying the full cost–and assuming that we miraculously figured out a way to do so–it looks like the other school that didn’t offer any financial aid may be a better fit for S given the major and pre-professional track that he’s interested in. Thanks!

TomisMom, If I remember correctly, there are some departmental awards and grants that are awarded to some students in the financial package. I do remember one family who was surprised to find an unexpected award listed.
I’m not sure when students are notified of the Deans scholarships, but since your son was admitted in mid March, it might be possible.
Hopefully one of the other moms has more knowledge about this to better answer your question.
Congratulations to your son for his other acceptances!

Anyone received anything yet? I’m out east so not expecting anything soon :)

Hy!!!
I have one question.
What if i want to know i write an essay well or not, can i post and can check it for me?
So i can do my best.

I’m from Houston, nothing yet!!!
Does anyone know when they will mail them out?

No, we don’t know when the letters with scholarship information will be mailed. If you look at the past couple of years, they could be mailed out sometime between now and April 1. This means that the letters would arrive as late as the second week of April on the east coast (worst case scenario) or as early as the end of this week - for those in the LA area (best case scenario).

I guess this means that we could be checking our mailboxes for the next two + weeks! Then we will have just 2-3 weeks after that to make a final decision on choosing a school.

…So little time and so much to think about!

Sending the best wishes to all of you parents and students!

On the USC Facebook group, someone claims that after e-mailing their admission counselor they were told the scholarship letters would be mailed Thursday (tomorrow). So, if that info is correct that means people in the Los Angeles area will be receiving their letters Friday. Not too shabby…

Good luck to everyone! Hopefully everyone on here gets good news.

Apparently no scholarship notification letter today (lol)… We are from the heart land of America, thus we will not be the first to hear the news. We wish our friends in CA (our frontier foot soldiers :-)) good luck and please do bring some good news to the rest of us soon…

We kind of hope and pray that we will hear from USC earlier than the remaining schools as USC is our favorite and it is so near and dear in our heart.

Hopefully many of us will join in the Trojans family. Like someone said during the Explore USC Day, once a Trojan, forever a Trojan! Fight on!

Good luck to everyone!

Maybe this is just me, but I think the scholarship letters should be emailed first, and then sent by regular mail. Let’s face it, attending USC is expensive and many students have to give weight to their options based on the FA package. You guys shouldn’t have to hang around a mail box to wait for this if you’ve already been admitted, which I assume you are.

FindAPlace,
I am totally with you. USC is the only school my son applied to that doesn’t give online or email decisions. It is also the only school with meaningless status changes. Why make it harder for anxious/nervous students and parents.

Haha I agree FindAPlace…an email confirmation would be nice. but we’ve already waited for eight months or so…a couple of extra days shouldn’t hurt :)
