So I decided to do one of these myself, because there’s roughly a month left to hear from UC’s and I am starting to freak out.
GPA 3.89
Major - Psychology
Essays - Strong according to many readers
Work part time and have lots of extracurricular activities
Low income, first in family to attend college, immigrant to US, etc.
Applied to UCLA, UCB, UCSC, UCI. (Although I have completed the lower division requirements only for UCLA, I am missing Pre-calculus and Biology courses for UCI and UCB (because i changed my major last minute). And UCSC emailed me asking if I am willing to take Pre-Calc for summer).
I have heard from a lot of students that lower division requirements don’t matter as much, because you can complete it once you transfer. But I don’t think it is the case anymore.
I am now afraid that I might not get in. My priority is UCLA though.
What do you guys think?
You look like a pretty good applicant holistically. The gpa is kind of low, only reason I say that is I just glanced at the avg gpa’s at UCLA and more than half the admits have 4.0+. Not from Cali, though, so I’m not sure how much weight the UC’s put on gpa. You’re probably fine. Good luck in the process! All those are great schools.
Perhaps you mean the 4.0+ gpa of high school students? Because from my research of Community College transfers, there aren’t that many with a gpa that high.
Sorry, didn’t realize you were a CC transfer! You’re definitely right. Still, you look like a great applicant! As a fellow immigrant, I really wish you the best of luck. Do let us know your results!
