(Anxiously) Waiting

I have been reading what many people have posted on this forum, and finally registered with collegeconfidential.com. After hearing about many candidates receiving LOAs and early appointments, I have grown anxious in waiting. I myself am a candidate for the class of 2012 at USNA, and am currently 'Triple Qualified." I have a Presidential Nomination, and my application packet seems competitive, based on what I have seen/heard from other candidates. I am competing for additional nominations from Vice President, two Senators, and Congressman (based on an interview, it is highly probable that I will receive a second nomination from my Congressman). I attended Summer Seminar this past summer, and my application packet was completed on 30 September. Despite the above, I have not received an LOA, and have not even been invited to a CVW. I am growing nervous by the minute as I wait for the word from USNA. I was just wondering how many other candidates on here are in the same position that I am in? How are you dealing with the waiting?

^^^^
Don't sweat the LOA; most candidates never receive one. At the last CVW, the admissions directors stated that very few appointments will be offered until February. The bulk of the appointments are sent out during February and March.

Hi Midshipman2012 - what part of Ohio are you from...

Columbus..central area in Powell....are you from Ohio as well?

GreatAmerican is correct. There are very few LOAs handed out; the overwhelming majority of candidates who do receive an appointment do not receive an LOA.

Also, it's very rare to hear anything this early. USNA typically waits until it gets the MOC noms (which are due at the end of January, but may be submitted earlier) to make decisions on most of the class. Thus, most people don't hear until February and many not until April.

I know the waiting is hard, but you've done what you can do. Now, all you can do is wait (and, update your packet if you receive additional, relevant information -- i.e., awards).

Ditto ... having watched this process for a number of years here, November is still way early in the process. Don't fret, yet. Plenty of time for that, but not now. Good luck!

Yeah man, I'm in the exact same boat as you, minus the Presidential nom.

The waiting is killing me.

In the mean time, I have essays to write for Rice.

midshipman2012 - I'm a mother to two midshipmen (2010 and 2011). We are from Dayton, Ohio.

gointousna08...i guess we just have to be patient, and work on those MOC nominations...did you apply for NROTC?

jlr0313...congratulations on your two children...i live about 40 minutes from Dayton, and the MOC nomination process seems drawn out. My congressman held interviews in early november, one senator had all of his interviews on three consecutive saturdays, and the other senator is holding all of his interviews on december 8 and 15. I've heard from other candidates around the U.S. that their MOCs are finishing up everything. Ohio just seems to be slow in that regard...

thanks for the information you guys have posted! it really helps to know that other people are in the same position as myself.

Waiting is the toughest part.

My d is still waiting too. I presume many still are because it is still early in the process. Also, keep in mind that many candidates do NOT use this forum (they're missing out :) ) so there are probably still a lot more candidates who are in the same boat as you- just they don't know where to look for for advice. Good Luck!

BTW, when I started reading this forum a couple months ago, I thought that I was really behind everyone else. A lot of candidates on the forum had already received LOAs and one or two even had Appointments. Then I found out from the Academy that only three LOAs had been sent to my state so far and I relaxed a bit.

As everyone else has said, don't sweat not getting an LOA. Waiting is the hardest part. After I finished my File, I found meself going crazy about every little thing that I could possibly imagine going wrong with my application.

There will still be 5 more CVW's. I believe the next one is not until February or so, though? I could be wrong about that, but I do know that there are still 5 more.

How do you get invited to CVW? Is it ok to ask to be invited? Son has an LOA, so I hope he is asked. Is it something the BGO can arrange?

I received a letter - around late September I believe - inviting me to choose either the October or November CVW (or neither). I do not believe invitations are based on merit of the candidates' files. It seemed as though there were candidates from all ends of the spectrum at my CVW, including at least one with an appointment. I would imagine that your son will receive a letter at some point inviting him (again, I don't believe there is another until February, so I wouldn't expect such a letter until January). Of course, it would never hurt to ask his BGO what he can tell you about it, or call Admissions.

The Candidate Visitation Weekend was another issue I was stressing over...I asked my BGO about it, and he contacted my Regional Director. The RD said that since I'm Triple-Q'd, I should be receving an invitation really soon for the CVWs starting in February...

Candid8, my BGO mentioned that there are CVWs January, March, and April...that is all I know regarding the CVW

When I went to CVW, the mids told me that the admissions office invites candidates they think are competitive, not just random ones. They probably aren't the most reliable source about what goes on at the admissions office though. Don't worry about not getting an invite to CVW yet. I got my invitation in late September inviting me to a CVW in either October or November, and I think the November one was the last one until January, so if you didn't finish your application till the end of September, they couldn't have invited you to the first couple.

The next one is January 24th-26th. Then there is 1 in Feb, 1 in march, and 2 in April.

They are invitation only, but you can call your BGO or RD and essentially ask for an invitation.

midshipman2012- yeah I actually already got my NROTC scholarship, so I'm wrapping up the applications for my NROTC schools. Did you? What schools?

gointousna08, i am finishing up my NROTC application with the essays and all...tryin to get the counselor/teachers to finish off the details one last time. I have Ohio State and Miami (OH) as my first two choices and I've already applied to them. Beyond that, I will have to look at the other schools I put lower down on my NROTC list as far as applications go..

just out of curiosity what does CVW stand for?
