just got into the business college lol pretty happy, but does anyone know how penn state is with out of state AID??

PSU doesn't give out a lot of AID anyway due to the large number of students.

My acceptance packet has the following prices for full tuition, room and board, meals, and books and supplies:

In-State: $24,626

Out-of-State: $36,220

That's for MAIN CAMPUS ONLY.

The satellite campuses are about $2,000 cheaper ($22,544-23,050) for in-state, and about $7,000 cheaper ($28,620-29,438) for out of state.

PSU isn't my first choice, but it's nice to know that if my first choice doesn't work out, I'll have that to fall back on.

*And in my earlier post, I meant I submitted my app in early-mid November, not December. It took about 3 wks.

Same here. PSU is my 2nd choice. Took about the same time for my decision too.

PSU is my number 1 and i have yet to hear from them. and i am positive that i am a on the border. Does anybody know how competetive the colleged of education is?

i'm with you twilight. i don't want to do the two plus two plan. im not a fan of that i don't wanna switch colleges after 2 years. if dont get in main im not going

on collegeboard it says penn state only requires FAFSA, so does that mean the school uses the federal methodology when calculating aid??

^What is the "federal methodology"?

the institutional methodology is something that most private schools use when they calculate the financial aid packages and from what i hear it takes into account things like home equity etc., while federal methodology is used by public schools... the EFC is generally less with the FM at least from what ive heard

They probably use the federal methodology. And, as I said, they don't give much of anything extra.

is the EFC final? because my parents EFC using the federal methodology came out to be 2000

The only AP class my son took was AP Calc this fall and I know that admissions will not see that. Most of his classes have been honors and he had a 4.23 W as of Junior year with a 3.52 UW. SAT's 1720. Do you think the fact that he has no AP's will hurt him ? He comes from the #1 H.S. in the our region which I know is recognized by PSU.

your son should be fine. he has amazing grades

2 + 2 plan is lame. there's no way i'd ever bother with that.

how about transfer applicants? has anyone of u received a reply?

I applied as a transfer student. They told me they want my transcripts again. They sent me a letter telling me all they need is my transcript with this semester on it. But the weird thing was on the bottom they wrote P.S. your PSU ID number is 9blahblahblah, please use this on future something. I don't know if that means I'm in but if I have an ID number, it makes a me even more nervous...this school is playing games with me and it needs to stop. It's like let me know already lol.

the moment u've submitted your app they'll file u a psu id. it's for reference in case you send in any extra credentials in the future. :)

i just got my letter, UP for fall 2009, college of communications!
my gpa was 3.8 uw and my sats were 1910/2400; four APs.
online status still hasn't changed!

wow thats nice to see, i guess kids who didnt have a 4.5 GPA and 2200 on their SATs are starting to find out!

collegekid, mdm had a 3.8 unweighted. weighted, it was probably above 4.0 haha
3.8 is still very high and the 1900 area in SAT's makes them a perfect fit

ugh. im still trying to go by the whole "no news is good news" thing at this point but i'm starting to doubt because some people are being rejected with decently high stats.

Congrats, Mdm963 -- That's fantastic!!!!!! When did you apply???
