CONGRATS to your daughter, DPlaysRugby!! In seeing her stats, it's no wonder she got accepted and I'm sure she'll get into UMD as well. Females who play rugby are in high demand, I would imagine, since it's traditionally thought of as a male sport (hope I'm not sounding chauvinistic!) -- S played 2 summers in a local league but it wasn't his thing.

Interesting that she first received notice via snail mail -- will have to make sure not to throw-out all those college packets that are STILL coming in by the droves each day -- I really do think colleges are wasting far too much money on these brochures that very few kids actually look at. I digress . . .

As I said, with a 1300 (700M/600CR) and a 3.35gpa (3/4 Honors level and 3APs) it's looking a little bleak. He would be the first kid from our high school never to have gotten into UP but this is a tough year with the high demand for "affordable" state universities. His ED school, which he hears from by Monday, is about $15k more so that's why I referred to as PSU as "affordable"!

Again, CONGRATS to your daughter (and you!) on her acceptance -- she must be thrilled.

It seems your intended major might play a role in terms of when you hear. Anyone undecided hear yet? I heard from a current PSU student that they do the acceptances by major. Not sure if that is right. My One and Only don't lose hope - the board last year was filled with great candidates who didn't get their acceptances until the end of January. I believe the stellar students have already heard but that doesn't rule out the others.

Im a freshman at Penn State this year and this is kinda how it went last year
my borderline friends who applied to hard to get into majors found out in december
I and other friends of mine with similar stats found out in january (1190 sat & 4.0 gpa)
People who were accepted into summer found out in february

s.miller what were your stats, i applied to the college of education and have yet to hear. my GPA is 3.72 and SATs 1510/2400 and alot of EC's and volunteer work. Do you know much about the college and will that cut it for that major? or how comptetitive is it

maybe they are releasing admittances for college of communication as my best friend's son from NJ was accepted yesterday. "A" student with 1800's on SAT.

In response to:
- sugarpop: twilight: I was accepted into DUS on Friday, though it's not even the program I meant to apply to.

Did you apply for summer? Did you apply to University Park as your first choice? If you don't mind, will you post your stats? I am deeply curious because I applied for UP-DUS for the summer around November 12, and haven't heard back yet. My stats are located in my profile.

I'm pretty sure that Beaver-branch only sent you that e-mail simply because the representative from that branch was there. About two years ago, a representative from Penn State-Hazleton came to our school, and I signed up to talk with her. Within a few days, I had an e-mail from that branch. I don't think it has anything to do with your application process.
