PSUFan82, thanks a lot for that helpful information. Honestly, those were my thoughts, as well; it's rough, but there are a lot more advantages to summer, especially since I'll be starting university with 28 college credits as it is. I could potentially graduate an entire year early in that combined with a summer session (but likely won't, because I plan on having a double major and a minor). In all, it seems like the best decision if I do decide to go to Penn State.

My only real worries are having such a tiny break to prepare and say goodbye to good friends. True, in New York, I have two weeks off for Regents (which I don't have to take) before the actual graduation ceremony itself. My graduation party is going to be the weekend before Memorial Day. Plus, given the break between semesters, I'll probably be back at home for a couple of weeks before leaving again to go back for the fall session, right? Which gives time to see my friends. Another flaw in my plan is that I've been thinking about having a senior-summer roadtrip before going to college since I was about twelve, so that I can see my two close long-distance friends and my girlfriend -- but two graduate at least a month before me, so there is time in those weeks between finals and my own graduation to spend some time with them and come back for college shopping/family stuff. Maybe.

Overall, I'm still not sure. It'll be tight! Additionally, Penn State is my second choice behind the tied triumvirate of Vassar-Bard-DePauw, but on the other hand...I've wanted to be there since I was four, and I've always sort of known in my heart that I'd end up there, so we'll see. Thanks a ton.

Skull...
You're welcome! One last thought...I found that a lot of us who started in summer had friends from HS who came and visited us while we were there in summer. I'm from NJ, and they were willing to make the 4 hour trek and believe me, they loved coming and visiting
Happy Valley.

D got into School of Liberal Arts on Monday for the fall. 1250/1860, OOS, 3.74 GPA.
Lots of EC's and should have about 12 credits of AP's going in.
She applied 1st week of August and had the long wait like many others. Ordered a PSU sweatshirt yesterday!

Don't know how they decide summer. Skullduggery your stats are fairly similiar....two days after graduation doesn't seem fair..good luck.

Well, it would be a 7-8 hour trek for my friends, but they would probably find it better than staying in our crummy little town any longer than necessary. :P

Billmayo -- congrats to your daughter! Hey, it'll probably be worth it anyway; I would be dreadfully bored and anxious between June 26th and August 22nd. No worries.

jarad,
french is a cool language, i took four years of it.
i'm considering doing one of the business ones. you can find the info at the leap website.

Skullduggery, last summer my d had several friends start at summer session and had a blast. We are only about 3 hours away so that might make it a little easier for the occaisional weekend home. My d also got summer session, but since she had heard how much fun it was she doesn't seem to be too bummed (actually she is thrilled to have gotten in at all). She will have one week off between graduation and the start and with senior week (around here they all go to the jersey shore for the week following grad) will only be home 1 day before leaving, if she does decide on PSU. Best wishes - the good news is you have great choices in front of you!

Anyone know the approx. cost of summer session? Obviously it's pay now or pay later since you are taking 2 classes (I think) that you won't have to take later, but then there is room and board to consider.

One of my close friends just got denied into UP and was accepted into Berks. I was really dumbfounded...he's valendictorian. Has a 3.79 GPA. 1380 SAT's... His EC's...well, maybe that's what stopped him from admission into UP. I'm nervous now, because he's our school's Valendictorian, and, wow, I'm ranked number 6...with a 3.5 GPA...and a 1340...let's hope for the best.

Oh, and KnitKneeLionMom, when you pay for the summer session...about how long is later? Like, does it get included with your overall tuition and you just pay the balance AFTER graduation?

KJSnr2009...he must have a criminal record you dont know about...and besides its a numbers game when it comes to psu admissions, except if you are borderline, at which point they look at ECs and recs, but honestly, that is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard

sorry for being presumptious, but there is something he isnt telling you!

other than my semi joking comments above, i could wager to say that his gpa is too low, i dont think your school weights based on what i see...so im not sure, but his sat seems high enough to offset it...who knows, but if i were him i would call and be like ***?

They will tell you to pay approximately 1.5-2 months before the semester starts. You have 3 weeks to pay your bill (tuition, food, housing). If you don't pay within the deadline (3 weeks) they will charge you $50 extra.

KJSnr2009 , do you know what major he applied for? Because my friend who signed up to major in graphic design had only an 1100 on the SATS, whereas my other friend who applied to the engineering program with a 1390 got summer session. I defintely think it depends on your major and school as well as gpa and sats and stuff.

ahhhh i just got in! i checked at 12:01 right after my online status had been updated and i got into UP!!!! im sooo excited! i thought it was going to be a reach for me because no one gets in from my small school in MA. i had a 3.4 uw gpa and 1890 (one sitting) sat
hope that gives hope to all who still havent heard

I GOT ACCEPTED!
i check online this morning and it said congratulations! i'm ecstatic!
it didn't say anything about summer session on there, so i should assume i don't have it...?
