Congrats to all who've already been accepted!

myoneandonly what are your son's stats and what school is he applying to? maybe that is the hold up? do you mind sharing?

S applied to the "Energy/Business/Finance" major -- actually not sure if it's through Smeal or College of Earth Sciences(?). Solid public school in MA - 3.35gpa out of 4.0 - all Honors level classes in the past and 3 of his 4 courses this year are APs; 700M/600CR/540W - president of latin club (2ys); varsity golf (4ys); crew team (2ys); few other minor ec's and little volunteering; worked at law firm over the summer. Didn't apply for summer session. Did not apply for fin. aid.

Beginning to get a little nervous here! I know acceptances have been out for the past 2 weeks.

Any idea of his chances?

so does PSU typically put the Scheyer applications on a fast track? i haven't submitted my Scheyer's application yet, but i will probably by this weekend or next (procrastination kills me).

i think i'm a pretty good candidate for Schreyers (2200 SAT/4.2 GPA/top 10%) and i'm OOS (MD). does that mean i should get a decision much sooner? i applied for regular admission a week ago, BTW.

edit: and i checked do NOT consider me for the summer

update.. ACCEPTED!!!!!

i found out through the fat envelope (not really that fat, lol) in the mailbox. but my MyPennState also says:
"Congratulations on your acceptance to Penn State!

I am pleased to offer you admission to The College of Engineering for Fall 2009 at Penn State University Park. While a packet of materials will be in the mail to you shortly, I hope that the information provided here will help give you a head start on thinking about your offer to Penn State."

BTW i submitted my app on the 9th, so it took them 10 days.

good luck to everyone still waiting!!!

Out of curiosity, did anyone else get accepted into the Engineering Program, and if so, what do you intend to study?
probably Mechanical. although it's not set in stone.

myoneandony- I think he looks solid but may not be admitted until later like Dec. Looks like they are taking the top candidates first and working their way down. Way too early to panic. Did he apply to any other rolling admission schools?

blu g8aroade - are you going to go to PSU? Did you consider U of Maryland?

^i'm applying to several top tier schools (Cornell, Stanford, MIT, Columbia). if those don't work out, then yeah, i'll probably be at PSU. either there, or Georgia Tech.

and yes, i'm doing Maryland EA. i'll probably submit my app by this weekend.

Does Maryland have a good reputation for engineering as far as you know? I know it does not compare to the top schools that you mentioned but since you are in state is it known for engineering or is mostly business.

engineering is actually a very popular major at Maryland, and Clark has a really good reputation.

I know their electrical engineering ranks higher than Penn State and every other school in the area. And they are nationally recognized in Nanotechnology, like top 5.

so yeah.. people may mostly associate MD with business, but engineering grads definitely have no problem getting jobs as far as i know. engineering is known to be a pretty rigorous major.

edit: from wiki:

"Rankings

The Princeton Reviews 2007 rankings placed the Clark school at 6th in the nation. The 2007 U.S. News and World Report placed the Clark School at 10th in the nation among public engineering schools and 16th among all engineering schools. Additionally, the Institute of Higher Education and Center for World-Class Universities ranked the A. James Clark School 13th worldwide.[3]"

very good school.

accepted but i wanna go to ga tech!! :(

low SAT scores.
eh...okay ACT.
GPA...3.7 uw, 3.92 w
9 AP classes, rest are honors
decent ECs
varsity letters in swim and tennis.
out of state.
ranking, top 10%

^ if you don't mind me asking what was your ACT?

collegekid5, i think you'll get in summer. your SAT's are lower but your GPA is good. a friend of mine who goes there said he thinks summer is more for kids who have lower GPA's and good enough SAT's or lower SAT's but good enough GPA's, like you. and even me sort of..i'm in the middle. so i think you're fine for summer with a 3.7

lindz congrats but what were your sat scores? MkC I have a 3.8 and tons of AP's and honors. But my SAT scores are 1680. I feel i have a decent chance. Also MY dad and sister went there. (sister currently) What do you think?

yea i second the question for your ACT scores, lindz, if you don't mind

I already posted that I got accepted, but I did not put my stats. For those who were wondering:

720CR, 680M, 690W
4.0 Unweighted GPA
1/250 something
3 Year Varsity Sport
A lot of extracurriculur activities and leadership positions.

Hope this helps!!

thanks mkc2100, im just really nervous, cause it seems like everyone on here seems to be hearing already. i just really need to get in, its the school i have really wanted to go to for the last year or so....how long do you think til i hear?

i'm assuming the status changes online when you get accepted...?

yeah when you're accepted they post it online.
collegekid5, i really have no idea. im hoping to hear soon too
and pitt2009, you're definitely in. especially because your sister goes there currently. they love legacy's it seems like. not to say it's the same for everyone, but my friend got in and his sister goes there currently as well. his SAT's were real good...1290/1600 but he only had a 3.6. not bad but not a 3.8 like you. i think you're alright for summer.

i have a 3.52 and a 1760 on SAT's with lots of extracirriculars and a good amount of honors but only 1 AP. im trying for summer too. and only summer. i applied specifically for summer, not even fall. what do you think?

I would say you are good.
