I know this is a frequently asked question, but have there been international students who didn’t receive interviews? I know that it’s pretty late to hope for any interviews, since the decisions are coming out next week, but this thought’s been bothering me for ages. I’m an international applicant living in a very, very obscure country (which I don’t want to mention). It wasn’t even included in the list of countries with limited alumni interviews on Harvard’s website.
I haven’t received an interview, and at this point, I’m not expecting one, either. My question is: have any international students been accepted without interviews? I’ve stalked some threads on CC and a lot of people claim that there have indeed been students…but I haven’t found a single account proving this.
I was accepted to Bowdoin with no interview so don’t worry (plus given a hefty amount of fin aid). I think they understand that for internationals in particular, getting an interview is difficult so they won’t factor it. Let me know how it goes!
Only British candidates are routinely interviewed because of the size of the Harvard Club of the UK. In other cases, it depends whether an alum is available. Frankly, it’s debatable how much an interview matters to begin with, especially at Harvard. Now at University of Chicago, it’s another story. They place great weight on interviews.
@amandan25@klingon97 Thank you for your input! I guess we’ll see today if international students can get accepted without an interview… I’ll let you know in 6 hours.
@snusnu If you weren’t admitted, the interview wouldn’t have made any difference. As Harvard states clearly, the interviews are largely for information purposes. It was an insanely competitive year. Incidentally, 48 international students were accepted in the UK. Almost 10% of the class is international. So international students were accepted and only British ones were routinely interviewed. Best luck in your other choices.
