Are any of you accepted students recruited athletes? I’m rowing for the women’s crew team next year… go bears!

Congratulations. kobcrew24!!!! You're going to love John and Phoebe...and Brown.

Kobcrew, what was your 2K time? Does Brown have women's lightweight team?

I am a rower as well but they never replied to my e-mails. I am really hoping that they will help pull me through waitlisting, if they can. My 2K is 7:27.2, so that hopefully should be good enough, and I am 6 feet tall.

I figure that I am going to try and do anything to get into Brown because it is the only way that I can row division one next year, and I love the school in general.

Brown does not have a lightweight time Pennstergo.
I would like to know your 2K time to see if I am in the "range".

my best 2k is also a 7:27! are you going to brown next year? the coaches are great, i am really excited to be a part of their team. where do you row? what club/program?

browninfall are you rowing next year? how do you know the murphys? they seem so great!!

So they hopefully will look at me, and be like "Whoa we missed this girl but she would be great!" At least I hope so.
I was waitlisted, but if I manage to get off the waitlist I will be going most definitely.

I row in Austin Texas for Texas Rowing Center. They aren't that big and I am actually the only girl sub 8(I know isn't it sad) but I love my coach so much. I also am mostly a sculler with limited Sweep experience, but I hope to be at Selection Camp this summer to get more sweeping in.

I am sort of afraid of calling the coaches because they might wonder what is wrong with me for being so last minute. I actually e-mailed him last summer and he replied but since then he didn't reply. I also dropped my erg score about 25 seconds in the past 5 months.

I am not rowing next year. If I did, the boat would sink. However, my daughter currently rows for Brown. She was heavily recruited - and I mean heavily recruited. We met some terrific people along the way during the recruiting process. The coaches at Cal were awesome... so were the coaches at Michigan and the assistant coach at Harvard...other coaches were great too...all that being said...John and Phoebe are in a class by themselves. They're not only good coaches, but they're the salt of the earth as well.

For those women rowers who have been waitlisted I would be on the phone with John and tell him how important it is for you to be at Brown. I wish you the best of luck. It's a great program with great people.

laurenemma

Please call John. In fact you have to call John. He's probably going to ask you if Brown was so important for you why didn't you apply early. Be prepared. All that being said he wants to continue to have the top rowing program in the country. If you can help in that regard, put your salesman's shoes on. Good luck!

can you guys post your stats? I'm interested in playing sports too and I want to know what it takes stat-wise to get in. thanks.

my stats...
gpa-3.2 (3.4 my senior year)
sats-1300, 650 each
sat 2's, 680 writing 650 math 620 bio
recs were all amazing (or so i think!!)
for my sport i have attended the national team selection camp (a very elite camp, invitation only), i've been a varsity starter since my sophomore year, and i have won and placed third, at the new england championships. i knew brown was where i wanted to go since my sophomore year, and i expressed this to the coach. don't let anything stop you from looking at a school that you're interested in-- just play hard and work hard and hopefully everything will be for the best! the brown athletics office and admission office are great, they are very straightforward with you and whatever a coach says he/ she means. best of luck! what sport are you interested in?

browninfall, do you have any advice for next year? i had a very similar recruiting experience, however i knew brown was it. it was the first school i visited, and although i loved my other schools (namely michigan uva cornell and notre dame) i knew brown was it. i am so excited to be rowing for them! who is your daughter, if you don't mind me asking?

I am a junior and I filled out the survey but never heard back from anyone. I'm a cox so maybe they wouldn't be that interested? I will be attending the Northeast Camp in Maine this summer, so hopefully that will get me noticed. Any advice on what to do from here?

thanks for the info kobcrew. how high were you ranked on the coach's list? And did the coach tell you beforehand that you were going to be admitted?

to anyone who wants to play college sports, call the coach!!! that is the best way to get interested. emstir, cox's are an important part of the boat, they would definately be interested provided you are. gatsby i was probably pretty high on his list, i am not sure haha he didn't tell me. he didn't tell me beforehand that id be admitted but he said things looked good, so.

Thanks, Ya'll.
I did e-mail them multiple times and they didn't get back to me. I didn't want to seem pushy so I didn't try calling them.

My stats are rather good
SATI 1470
SATII 800,780,760,750
Good grades, no GPA calculated at a competitive prep school

One guy in my class is a recruited athlete for Brown. He's attending this fall. I believe he is recruited for Football.

laurenemma

Go beyond the emailing....pick up the telephone. They're not the type of folks who are into checking email all the time. Good luck.

I have called both John and Pheobe and I hope that I didn't sound as desperate as I fear I am on the phone. Hopefully they will get back to me with good news. :)

laruenemma, how did that phone call go? did you just leave a message or actually talk to them? I don't think I'm allowed to call until after july (i'm a junior), but i wouldn't know what to say anyway.

I left a message and they haven't called me back. I believe that the NCAA regulations prohibit them from calling you back until July, you could call on the off chance that you catch them in their office. They are allowed to e-mail you if you initiate contact.

I called over a week ago and no reply. I am getting rather antsy. I just want them to tell me something and right now I am in the dark.
